Uparbeda, an unnamed tribal village in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. A baby girl opened her eyes in the family of Biranchi Narayan, the chief of this village. That day was Friday, 20th June , 1958. In tribal culture girls are given more priority. There was a wave of happiness in the family. Biranchi was the chief of the said Santali village. In the tribal community, the names of ancestors never die. Therefore, according to inheritance, this girl was named after her grandmother. Putimayee was her childhood name. Her primary education started in the village. Her studies started in the old books of the upper classes till the seventh standard. This girl understood at a very early age that the tribals could not join the mainstream of society due to lack of proper education and leadership. So after getting higher education, she started dreaming of lighting the lamp of education in the society. This addiction brought him to the capital Bhubaneswar. She continued her high school education for four years in Bhubaneswar Unit 2 Girls High school . She was admitted to the hostel of that school. In 1979, she passed the Bachelor's degree course at Ramadevi Women's College .


She was very happy to get the post of junior assistant in the Odisha secretariat that year. She got married to Shyam Charan Murmu, a young bank officer from the nearby village. She had three children. Due to illness of her husband she had to leave her job to serve him. Later she joined Arvind Integral Educational Center in Rairangpur as a teacher without salary.

She did not stop there. In 1997, she joined in politics for the purpose of public service to provide proper leadership to the state. Incidentally, her two sons died. Her husband also passed away in 2014. The death of her husband and children was a difficult time for her, but she did not give up. She stand in politics from councilor to MLA, minister and then the first woman governor of the neighboring state Jharkhand. Now she earned the honor of being the country's first citizen. She is none other than the daughter of this soil and the fifteenth president of our country, Mrs. Draupadi Murmu.
