Sport Benefits
In the colourful town of Sportyville, children were always excited to try new things. But some kids, like Ria, preferred to stay indoors, reading books or playing video games. Ria thought sports were too tiring and not meant for her.
One sunny morning, her friend Aarav invited her to join the town’s annual Sports Carnival. “It’s fun, Ria! You’ll get to play games, make new friends, and win prizes!” he said with a big smile. Ria hesitated but agreed to watch.
When they reached the playground, Ria saw children laughing and running around. There were basketball hoops, football nets, skipping ropes, and even a cycling track. Coach Mira, a friendly woman with a whistle, noticed Ria standing quietly. “Would you like to join us, dear?” she asked warmly. Ria shook her head. “I’m not good at sports. I’ll just watch.”
Coach Mira knelt down and whispered, “Sports are not about being the best. They’re about discovering your strength and having fun.” Ria felt curious. “What do you mean?” she asked.
“Let me show you,” said Coach Mira. She took Ria to a skipping rope station. “Start with this. You don’t have to jump high or fast. Just enjoy it.” Nervously, Ria tried skipping. At first, she stumbled. But soon, she found a rhythm. Her heart raced, and a strange feeling of joy filled her. “This is… fun!” she giggled.
Next, Aarav invited her to play a quick football match. Running after the ball made Ria feel free and light, as if all her worries had blown away with the wind. When she scored her first tiny goal, everyone clapped. Ria’s face lit up with pride.
Coach Mira gathered the children and said, “Do you know why sports are magical? They teach you teamwork. Look at Aarav helping Ria! They also make you strong and healthy. Playing keeps your body active and your mind sharp. And most importantly, sports teach you to never give up.”
Ria listened carefully. She realised that every time she tried a new game, she felt happier and braver. “Coach, can I try basketball next?” she asked eagerly. Mira smiled. “That’s the spirit!”
For the rest of the day, Ria played different games. She learned how to dribble a basketball, run in a relay, and even cycle on the track. Though she didn’t win any medals, she discovered something more valuable—a new confidence in herself.
That night, Ria told her parents, “Sports are amazing! I made new friends and I feel so happy. I want to play every day.” Her parents were delighted. “Sports will help you grow stronger, smarter, and kinder,” her mother said.
From that day on, Ria spent one hour each evening playing outside with Aarav and other children. Soon, she noticed that she had more energy to study, slept better, and even felt less shy at school.
And so, the girl who once feared sports became one of Sportyville’s happiest players. She learned that sports aren’t just about winning; they’re about discovering the power within you.
