Snippet was a very naughty and irresponsible pixie. One day he asked his Ma something. “Ma”, called Snippet. “What is it?” asked Ma. “Can I use few of your spells?” he asked. “What on earth do you want my spells for?”, asked Ma astonished. “I just want to play with them”, Snippet answered. “PLAY WITH THEM”, she boomed. “My dear boy, I would never let you play with them” said Ma, calming down. “You’re far too irresponsible to handle these precious spells”. “But, Ma”, wailed Snippet. “Snippet you are not getting my spells” said Ma fiercely. The next day she received a letter from her sister saying she was sick. “Oh, I don’t want to leave you home alone” she kept saying to Snippet. “But your aunt is sick so I must go”. “Ma, I can take care of myself”, said Snippet to his Ma. “Well, okay then” she said.

The next day Ma got dressed and came downstairs. “Now Snippet”, said Ma, “I have a few jobs for you to do today”. “Do I have to?” groaned Snippet. “Yes Snippet you have to”, said Ma. “Okay what is it?” he asked. “You must take the clothes off the line, buy bread from the grocer and keep the house clean”, said Ma. “Fine, now hurry up or you will miss your bus”, said Snippet, pushing Ma out the door. Snippet quickly got to the grocer’s and bought the eggs and bread but, unfortunately he forgot to take the clothes off the line. That night was very windy, and there went the clothes flying off the line.

The next morning Snippet woke up very late indeed.”Oh my God !” cried Snippet, once he woke up. “It’s almost noon and I haven’t had my breakfast yet.”. Snippet brushed his teeth at lightning speed, and raced down to have breakfast. He looked for the milk. “Oh no!” cried Snippet. “We’re all out of milk.”. “I’ll buy it later”, he said, and he made some bacon and eggs. Sometime later Snippet found a little key on a table. ‘Hmm, what key is this?’ he thought. He turned it around and it said in bold letters: SPELLS. ‘Ha’, thought Snippet. ‘Now I can use a few of Ma’s spells. He opened the spell cupboard. “Invisibility spell, Floating spell, cleaning spell”, muttered Snippet, reading the labels. “Now which spell should I use first” Snippet asked himself. He took the floating spell thinking it was the invisibility spell, and he poured it all over himself. “I’m floating” he cried in astonishment. Then he reached for the bottle and looked at the label. “Oh! I must have poured the floating spell over me instead of the invisibility spell” he said. Snippet had lots of fun floating. But once the spell wore off, Snippet landed on the ground with a huge thud. “Oh dear” he said, looking at the mess he made. Once he looked at himself he yelped in horror. “I really must clean myself up” he said to himself. That day Snippet did nothing but make a mess out of everything. “Wow! This place is a mess!” he exclaimed.

The next day Snippet woke up later than usual. “Oh bother! It’s already lunchtime and I can’t believe Ma’s coming home today!” Snippet cried looking at the calendar. “I’d better have my lunch quickly and clean up”. “Hmm, what should I have for lunch?” he asked himself. “I’ll have some sausages, some fruit cake and some orangeade”. But while eating, Snippet just made a bigger mess of things. He spilled orangeade on the floor and a dollop of cream went flying up to the ceiling. After he ate he forgot all about cleaning. Instead he took a nice long nap. A few hours later the bus stopped in front of the house and Ma was home. “Snippet she called. “Snippet, I’m home”. She walked into the kitchen screamed in fright. “What has that pixie been doing in my beautiful kitchen?” she cried. She walked out of the kitchen and noticed her cupboard of spells open! ‘Well I must have left the key back here. I hope Snippet was sensible enough to leave those spells alone’, she thought. But once again Ma screamed in horror. But this time she was so loud that Snippet fell out of his bed and hit his head on his desk. He walked outside and noticed Ma. “Why, welcome back Ma” said Snippet. “Snippet come here” said Ma sharply. “Yes Ma” he said and walked over to her astonished. She showed him the cupboard and scolded him very badly. “Snippet, what have you been doing with my spells?” asked Ma at the top of her voice. “I was only playing with them” stammered Snippet, who was feeling very scared right now. “PLAY WITH THEM” boomed Ma. “Snippet haven’t I precisely told you that you are NOT TO PLAY WITH THEM?” asked Ma, in a tone Snippet didn’t like one bit. “Yes” answered Snippet. “Well you’ll be having extra chores for a month, no TV for a month and no friends over for a month” said Ma in a calmer voice. “But Ma” argued Snippet. “Now if you start arguing I’ll change everything to five months” said Ma her voice becoming stern again. “Sorry Ma” he said. “Now I hope that you’ve taken the clothes off the line” said Ma. “What clothes?” asked Snippet. “The clothes that I told you to take off the line” said Ma. “Well I didn’t take any clothes of the line” said Snippet. “Oh you naughty boy!” she shrieked. “The clothes have probably flown off the line by now”. Snippet was now trembling from head to toe. “Oh you stupid boy, you wait till I catch you. I’ll give you a good scolding”. As soon as Snippet heard that he made a run for it. Poor Snippet! He never manages to get things right!
