Sharabha Avatar

In Tretayuga, there was an Asura called Hiranyakashupa who was devoted to Lord Shiva, a young brother of Hiranya who was killed by Varaha avatar of Lord Vishnu. To seek revenge on Lord Vishnu he was devoting Lord Shiva. 

As Lord Shiva appeared in front of Hiranyakashupa because he was mesmerized by seeing his strong faith. Lord Shiva asked him to ask his wish as he need. Hiranyakashupa asked Shiva that he wants to become immortal. But Shiva refused his wish because every creature in the world would die one day. So, Lord Shiva asked him to ask for any other wish.

So, Hiranyakashupa thought brilliantly and asked a list of conditions for his death that he should be murdered by a person that he would not be either Human or Animal and he should not be murdered by any weapon and he should not either murdered during day or night and he should not either murdered inside or outside of his palace. And finally he should not either murdered in the land or sky.

Shiva granted Hiranyakashupa's wish. As many years passed time was came for Hiranyakashupa's wish to become truth. Maha Vishnu took his Narasimha avatar which is a form of half human and half lion. Narasimha lift him and set on the entrance of the palace and lay him in his lap and tore his stomach by his nail during the evening. After Narasimha killed Hiranyakashupa, Narasimha anger does not control. 

Then Narasimha killed whatever creatures that he see in front of him. Every gods and humans pray to Lord Shiva to help them. Lord Shiva and Parvati send their avatars Veerabhadra and Maha Kali. But Narasimha defeat them so easily in a second. The earth started to turning into worser than hell. Then, Lord Shiva took his most powerful avatar called "SHARABHA" which is mixed form of human, lion and bird. It was form that giant human body contains lion head, ten hands and huge eagle wings. 

Lord Sharabha fly towards Narasimha and start fight that shook the whole universe. While they were fighting Narasimha created a mystical creature called Gandaberunda(A two headed Eagle).

Sharabha cannot fight with both of them at a time. So, Parvati Devi took Narasimha Devi Avatar and killed Gandaberunda. Sharabha took Narasimha by his hand and fly out of the earth surface. Then, Narasimha cannot breathe and fell asleep. Then Narasimha become peace. Vishnu came back to his original form and adopted Hiranyakashupa as his son.

Sharabha or Sharabeshwar is the fifth avatar and it was considered as the most powerful avatar of Shiva. He was known as The King of Birds in Shiv Purana.
