Room No. 602

Room No. 602

There was a knock on the reception table. The old lady with the spectacle on her head, putting it on her eyes and asked with an irritated tone… ‘yes… how may I help you?’ It’s me, who is stunned to see the old lady, wrinkled face and little irked with she getting disturbed at 11 pm. I was also astonished to see a lady working so hard even at the age of approximately 55.

I tried my best to get a room for 7 days, as I was on a business tour, but it was all in vain. So after spending half-a-day finding a stay in a hotel, I came to Heritage hotel. It was an old hotel but very well maintained. There was an entrance made of creepers of fragrant flowers. There were small bushes everywhere. It was very pleasant.

She asked me once again, sir, how may I help you? This made me aware that I am in front of old lady and I have to ask her for the room. The next moment, I asked the old lady for a room, not asked actually but pleaded for a room she nodded her head and said… ‘sorry sir, but no room is available at this moment. I can give you a room tomorrow.’ And suddenly to my surprise, something grabs my attention. I could notice two keys on hanging behind the old lady at reception. So I asked the lady that I could see two keys hanging behind her. She nodded her head in fear. She said those two rooms are not offered to anyone. She tried her best to explain that the room is haunted and no one stays there. I brushed her claims. I said I am educated and I know there is no ghost in the world and there is nothing haunted too. I laughed at her claims. She pleaded not to ask for rooms. I was firm on getting room and she was firm on her claim. Finally, she agreed to give me keys to room no 601.

The old lady at reception gave the key to room no. 601 and instructed me to not even to look at room next to you. I funnily asked ‘why, is there a ghost?’ The lady nodded her head once again. The first day went very well, I greeted the lady very happily and gave her confidence that nothing was wrong in the room. Likewise, second and third days too were spent well.

It was my fourth day in the hotel as I had a busy day with meetings. I was in the room in the evening, had a great bath. I could hear a knock on the door. I opened the door but found no one. I had my dinner and thought of reading my favorite book lying on the bed. After some time, I could hear the words of the book that I was reading were repeated by someone. I ignored first but later the sound was coming from somewhere close by. So I opened the door. My curiosity was raised as the sound was coming from the adjoining room. So I thought of opening the door, but it was locked. I tried to peep into the room from an eye-hole. And to my surprise, I could see a girl is chanting the words standing on the roof a doll was lying on the table. I was stunned by what I just saw.

Now it’s the fifth day that means my second last day in that hotel. I peeped in room no. 602 i.e. my adjoining room, out of curiosity and saw the same what I had seen the previous night. I went straight to the receptionist and narrated her of what I had seen in the room. She immediately requested me to leave the hotel. I asked her if she knows about a girl and her doll. But she was insisting that I should leave this place immediately. The receptionist didn’t tell the story of the room to me in spite of requesting her for so many times.

The sixth day came. There was something strange about the room. Something was pulling me towards the room. I could not stop myself from looking into the room again. I told myself that this is for the last time I am looking into the room. I peeped into the room and could notice that the lady is now standing on the roof and the doll is writing something. The doll's eyes turned red. After sometime I thought I want to leave this place. I felt something different in the body. I was feeling like something was pulling me towards something that I could only experience but do not have words to describe it.

I suddenly felt someone has switched red light in the room, no… not just the room but the hotel was turning red. I wanted to wash my face but I could not go to washroom. Somehow I could find the washroom. The washroom was dirty as if no one has cleaned it in so many months. But suddenly I realized my washroom was very clean. I could feel the touch of the doll at my feet. I picked up the doll and I was really scared at the doll as if the doll was laughing at me.

Many years later…. Now I could see everything from an eye-hole. Waiting and hoping for someone to peep into my room.
