My Personal Fairy Tale

My Personal Fairy Tale

When I was small, every night my mother would tell me a story. A story about a fairy who would always have a day exactly like mine. Now, when I am grown up, I understand that it was her way of telling me the right and wrongs of my day. I have lots of such stories, but the one now I will narrate is my favourite.

The night before my school Annual Sports Day

Sports days are always special for all school children, and so was mine. Run around, play, chit chat, have fun and win. I remember, talking to my mother the night before my annual school sports day.

Me: Aai, I am very nervous. I want to win every time I participate. Today in school, we had a trial run and I came second. I want to come first and make all of us proud.

Mother (Aai): Pillu, it's good to feel the way you do about winning. But remember, you should always give your 100% to everything that you do. Now, let's cuddle up and listen to how your sweet little fairy had her day at school.

Me: Aai, do fairies also have sports day? Do they also get prizes?

Mother (Aai): Yes they do. And so did your fairy. She had a wonderful day at school today. You know, surprisingly your fairy too had her trial runs and she also came 2nd.

Me: Aai, am sure she must be sad like me. She keeps telling me that she also wants to come 1st whenever she participates.

Mother (Aai): Sleep now and meet your fairy to know how she felt.

While I slept, Aai's story took me into my fairy tale to meet her.

Meeting my fairy

Meeting my fairy is always special. Today was extra special. She was very happy even if she came 2nd. When I asked her, she said she is happy because she tried hard and got results. I told her about my day and also that I came 2nd. She gave me a high five and wished me good luck for the big race tomorrow. I met her for very less time today, but she taught me a valuable lesson. Looking at her I realised that the effort that I put into anything is equally important as results. With a big smile on my face, I was ready for my sports day.

My school Annual Sports Day

I woke up early on my sports day. Had a nice bath and got ready pretty quickly. Mother (Aai) said - "What is so special today? You did everything very fast and on your own". I smiled at her and hugged her. We both knew it was a good day when we hugged each other peacefully. She packed my snack box and water bottle and wished me good luck. At the ground, it was my turn at the start line. I remembered what my fairy had said: "Efforts are as important as results". When the PE teacher clapped, I ran, with all my strength. I reached the finish line and a teacher held me and wrote (1) on my hand. I was so excited. I had made it through the heats. Excited about my win and with the same energy, I participated in the finals.

My first Gold Medal

My 1st Gold Medal. I had done it. I put in the best effort and the result was seen. I was not only excited to tell my parents about it but also my fairy. I had an amazing talk with the fairy that night. She was so happy for me. And so were my parents.

So friends, never get sad because you did not win. But always give your best and the result will always be good.
