Life of a Bee

Life of a Bee

A honey bee typically lives a life spanning between 30 to 60 days. For humans, this life span is brief and insignificant compared to the average human life of 70 years. However, let's live the life of a bee for a short while...

Bees are one of the most collaborative insects in the world, with thousands working together in harmony. The journey starts with a queen who has the unique ability to designate the sex of her children. Over time, the queen creates an army of bees that work tirelessly to grow and maintain the colony. Despite having such tiny brains, their genetics instruct them on the specific jobs they need to tackle.

Soon after birth and a nursing period, they begin contributing as worker bees. They maintain cleanliness, care for larvae, build cells, tend the queen, store honey, forage, pollinate, and guard the nest, to name a few tasks.

After spending a month in these roles, they face the toughest part of their lives—leaving the nest for foraging. They cover great distances to find pollen and bring food back to feed the colony.

After living a busy life for two months, most bees leave the nest before death approaches. Those who die inside the hive are taken out by other working bees.

It's a thankless life for the worker bee, but this collaboration makes them one of the most successful superorganisms in nature.
