“ Liege “ The Town I would like to visit again

Moment of impregnated anxiety it was on the 1 St March 2015, I landed at Brussels on an official visit for training and stay at beautiful town Liege.

It was a long trip away from family for three months for training at one of the group companies namely Balteau in Sprimont.

The chilly weather of Belgium was still unbearable in the first week of March for a Mumbai resident with the tropical climate who has never experienced anything below 15 Deg C. In Liege I got first chance to wear my jackets and pullovers and gloves. First one week I got to settle in my Guesthouse at Quai De Rome, 92.The location of my Guest house was just opposite La Muse river which was as calm as prayer in Cathedral. I quickly got settled, as one of my colleagues from India was in the same guest house who had been already in Liege for two months. He helped in getting acquainted with surroundings areas, shops, bus stop and of course the  beautiful gare de liege guillemins,The photo iconic train station with golf cap like design was worth clicking picture for

During my stay, I could not feel any moment of being away from Home,as people of Liege are so nice, orderly, loving and well behaved. In spite of my not so fluent French language knowledge,I could manage communications at all stores, stations, and offices. Of course knowing French is handy for one who is visiting Liege (Belgium).

Slowly I could locate the “La Batte” Sunday Market where I could find fresh fruits, vegetables and other household items. It was a great place meeting local people and making friendship with them over glass of Beer. By now the weather was getting favorable to me with nice sun shine which had been playing Hide and seek, unlike Mumbai where you have clear sky in Summer. .

The next few days, I visited number of nearby places like Brussels, Antwerp, Grand Coo, Spa and of course local sites in Liege Montagne de Bueren, Musium, Pont de Fragnée (The Golden Bridge), Statue of Charlemagne in and many more. The center of Liege where I could get all Indian food which I use to miss sometimes. Centre of Liege is lively and has more shops for chocolates, Beer and local traditional items.

 Pont de Fragnée

My training at Balteau was going on well and at the same time I could do sightseeing of France, Amsterdam, Germany. At the same time, I could feel that Liege has its own soothing touch due to lesser density of population and country side environment. Unlike other towns or places I visited,Liege people are very soft spoken, loving and the town lives in tranquility. .

Also I was fortunate to visit in one of Auditoriums to see Opera which was well conducted by supporting musicians which I could well connect with because of my exposure to Indian music.

The best way to know Liege people was by attending a Barbeque party  with some common friends for which this opportunity was an enjoyable event in nice sunny weather in month of March

I could surprisingly find one Indian temple near liege namely RahdhaDesh.

With my concluding few days of visit at Liege, it was hard to leave all the beautiful people and land of spectacle and scenery landscapes. But life has to move on and like time we have to obey the law of nature and settle in our original nest located in Mumbai,India. It was Mesmerizing trip to liege and I recommend all to visit once in their lifetime

The beautiful town namely “Liege“
