Let Go

Let Go

Siya finally got the last ticket to her home. The station was deserted at midnight, just like her life. She hurried to the platform and sat on a train. Though she was sitting, her thoughts traveled too far. She was engrossed in her overthinking to realize that, unlike her thoughts, the train was standing still. After 10 minutes of non-stop thinking about the past and the future, she looked out of the window. The train was still on the platform. She checked the crumpled ticket in her hands. There was no departure time on it. "When will the train leave?" she asked the ticket checker. He said, "When you decide to let go." "What???" She was confused, irritated, and a little bit scared. "The train will start moving when you let go of what happened to you. It's in your hands. You can wait until infinity to move on, or you can make efforts to let go of your past. If you wish to move forward, you will have to release yourself from the hands of the hurt caused to you." The ticket checker said in a calm voice. "What the hell are you talking about? I am not holding onto anything. I just want to go home." She almost screamed at him. This was her defense mechanism. Every time anyone said the words 'let go,' she would just deny the fact that she was unable to let go of the hurt caused to her by her friends and family. "Siya, you just have to accept the fact that you need to let go of things and people to move forward in your life. I know it's difficult, but you can do it. It's not for me. The longer you hold on, the longer you'll wait to see what it looks like when the train moves ahead." The ticket checker told her as if she was his daughter. Siya finally accepted the fact that she needed to let go. "Siya, the train is your life, and I am the ticket checker." "I get it, Dr. Kabir," Siya told her therapist and stood up from her chair as her weekly session had ended.
