How I taught my GRANDMOTHER to use the computer
How I taught my GRANDMOTHER to use the computer
During our Dussehra holidays, we went to our hometown, a small place in Andhra Pradesh, where my Grandma and Grandpa live, in their ancestral home.
As we have online classes I took my laptop along with me there.
I had fun all day playing with farm animals, eating delicious food prepared by my grandma, meeting and playing with my extended family and cousins.
In the evening when I sat down to complete my homework. My grandmother asked what I was doing.
I said that I was doing my homework and the moment she heard it she was astonished.
She said ‘’ how can you do your homework with the computer? ‘’
‘’ I am doing online assessments grandma’’ I replied. After she listened to me, she sighed and said ‘’ When I was little I never had any computers. The technology was not as advanced as now. I never got to experience technology as you do. Can you teach me?
I was shocked but smiled and agreed. I taught her all about the computer. How to open a computer, how to create folders, how to store your folders etc.
As my grandma is an ardent player of the veena, she writes notes in notebooks and saves her recordings in tape recorders. So I also taught her to save her recordings and notes in the computer files. The shortcut keys, the apps, how to search in google, what is Wikipedia.
When she was playing I sneaked out, recorded her song, and posted it on youtube. When I showed it to her, she was shocked and instantly smiled at me and hugged me with happiness.
She was glad she had learned technology and saved her art for generations to come. When I came back home I received an email from my grandma saying ‘’ Thank You’’.
After reading the mail I knew that my student had passed with flying colors.
