When you are an octopus living in the ocean with only one friend(who is a tuna named Jake). What do you do if he dies of a disease that plagues his entire school? you find the root of the disease and then rip out those roots, right? We should start at the beginning.

There was a lonely octopus who lived in his den. For some reason, he was feared by the fish even though he never ate any of them, he just stuck to his clams and the occasional snail. on a rather uneventful day, a fish swam into his den. He was of course shocked and a little scared, because even if he did have a bad reputation, for no reason whatsoever, he was actually a big softie at heart. As he pondered what to do in front of an unseen circumstance the tuna took the lead and said "Hi my name's Jake, what's yours?". He relaxed a little and said "My name is Triton, nice to meet you Jake, but why are you here?" "Oh this?" Jake laughed and said, "my friends dared me to come here".

This was the start of a beautiful but tragically short relationship. A few weeks after they both became friends Jake told Triton of a strange phenomenon where members of his school started to feel tired after they ate a lot of food and end up slowly dying. Most of the time the people who went out to find new types of food ended up getting this disease. A few days after Jake said that he would investigate the reason behind these deaths, Triton discovered his dead body while hunting for clams. The distance between Jake and Triton's den was fairly small, so Triton assumed that he must have died trying to get to his den. Triton was no stranger to heartbreak, he watched his parents being dragged away into the hands of those disgusting land creatures. He also watched his parents being dragged away in a boat. He was just a hatchling at the time so he had hardly any idea as to what was going on around him, what he did feel though was the feeling of being abandoned and lost.

Triton jerked out of his reverie, his friend had died of some unknown disease, he had to find the cure and save his school at the very least. The problem was, he had no clue as to where to start. Well, he did have a few clues. Say that only the ones who went to find new types of food were infected by this sort of disease. So, then he thought that it must be a new type of food with something in it that resulted in this disease. But then again, if he were to look for this new food then he would have to be extremely careful as anything that was something that he had not tried before could end up being the end of him. He needed guidance, and he knew just where to find it.

The next day, as he set out to find one of the nomads he realised he would need food, and lots of it because there was no way he was finding one so easily. The nomads had many different names, some called them leviathans, some called them harbingers and some just called them 'rare sights' because, with the rarity of these creatures, you could spend your whole life looking for one and not find them. Luckily for Triton, it was the migratory season and the most reported sightings were during these times. Triton was counting on this fact to find one of the nomads. The nomads, even if called harbingers, were generally agreed to be some of the wisest species as they travelled so much and usually never settled down in one place. The main problem was actually finding one of them. He set out with his food storage high and his spirits high as well, but by the tenth day, as he was about to give up with his food stocks running low and he saw a big creature in the distance, hope reignited in him, he set out towards the creature as fast as he could, as he got closer he realised that what he was looking at was not a nomad, in fact, it was actually an anomaly. Anomalies were the toughest creatures in existence. they were rarely spotted, could not be communicated with, and were generally hostile. In fact, most animals that had contact with them usually lived only for a few days due to the injuries they suffered at the hands of these creatures. Triton tried to get away but something like a blowhole opened at the top. Curiosity overwhelming fear. he decided to stick around for a bit. Out popped a land creature, shocked, triton stuck in one place, unable to move. The land creature had some sort of tube attached to it and a few pieces of glass held together in front of its eyes.

Not daring to move, Triton stayed absolutely still hoping that the land creature would go away. the creature only spared him a glance and started heading for the surface curiosity overwhelming fear once again, triton decided to stay close behind. the creature moved towards s bunch of fish but did not try to touch them, just observed them from a distance. The creature saw one of the food hunters breaking away from the school and started to follow it, the fish did not notice either of them, just kept on moving towards some bright thing floating at the surface, the fish looked at it with some semblance of curiosity, but when it tried to eat the thing, the land creature snatched it out of its face, the land creature also stuffed all the nearby colourful stuff into a pouch in its side. At this point, Triton was too curious to back off. he approached the creature and snatched the colourful thing out of its pouch and raised it to his mouth. the creature made a universally accepted no sign. Curious, Triton stopped and the creature tried to take the thing out of Triton's tentacles but he was not going to let go of this thing so easily and that was when it struck him that if this was a new type of food then this might have been what made the members of the school sick.

Triton rushed in the general direction of the school leaving 2 very shocked creatures behind him. He got to the place but the school itself was not very happy at the idea of a prospective predator coming to their face. Even so, he rushed through them ignoring all the looks that he got. He reached one of the infected and asked him if what he was currently holding resembled what the new type of food was. "Indeed it is!" came the reply. Triton turned around to the school and announced that he had found the source of all the problems, it was this new type of food. The school's response was a simple cold nod of acknowledgement and then a hastened departure. "That's it?" was his only thought. no happy smiles, no you are our saviour, nothing, just a nod of acknowledgement. The reality though was often very disappointing. He sighed. looks like he had better find some new coral to put at his friend's grave. Off he went, searching for some fresh coral to pluck.
