BULLYING - A CHILD’S BIGGEST FEAR
A very warm morning to everyone, I Aditi Aadibarna, a student who is standing here and am privileged enough to speak about something which is very close to my heart, BULLYING.
The word "bullying" itself gives us a feeling of getting scared, doesn’t it? We know social media is the main platform of getting bullied, a lot of children sitting here are on social media, even the majority of adults are there. People sitting here are acknowledging the truth of my speech and some are scared, I guess. Don’t be, you know you have people who care about you, you have your friends, your family, even your teachers and neighbours too.
I want everyone to raise their voices and say that they can fight the fear as I did. Some of you may know me some of you may not. I am like you guys. I am younger than you. I was ten years old when I was bullied and I still am getting bullied because I didn’t have the courage to go to my parents and tell them but I am older now; I have courage and I am going to fight. On hearing my speech you guys should be inspired like I was from Millie Bobby Brown's speech at a United Nations platform.
We cannot stop bullying in schools and educational institutions all over the world at a time.Sure it’s going to take time, so we should face our fear now because we don’t know what will happen in the future. So I would like everyone to join with me and help the bullied, I hope my speech will affect everyone in a positive way.
Now let me tell you how I handled the two senior girls and a boy mischievous to their fingertips.
When I was 10, my parents took me to my friend’s house. We were best friends for 6 years. We weren’t only best friends, we were like actual siblings. I even used to send him a rakhi on Raksha Bandhan day; we used to tell each other everything, each and every secret, whatever came to our minds, but one day, I called him and he was annoyed and he cut the call, which never happened between us.
After a few days, he called me and talked about what had happened that day and why he had annoyingly cut my call. The call went like this .. "Actually today something happened.’’
There was a bit of silence during the call. I said, "You can tell me everything Rahul.’’
‘’Yeah….I know!....!"
’’I kind of got bullied by some students in my school.."
‘’You need any help? You know I’m there for you, right?
‘’Yes, I know....!"
"Okay, let’s do a thing, let's meet tomorrow, tell me whatever happened...Right?’’
"Yes, sure!"
The next day I went to meet him at his school, but he didn’t know I was there. I saw him going through a bunch of girls and boys, who started calling him names. I saw his friends who didn’t even care and switched sides. So I went to them and asked why they didn’t help him.
They told that Rahul told them to stay away so that he could mind his own business out alone. So I thought to help him behind his back because he was my best friend. So I went to the principal and asked if he could help me because a grandfather should help his grandchild.
After some days I went to his school again and I followed him everywhere he went, and I saw him passing through that group again. There I went to them and it seemed to them I appeared out of nowhere.
They asked me,"Are you here to be given names?"
‘’Not needed.... ..I already have a name...No need for another name."
They were disgusted.
They were staring at me rudely when their Principal came out of nowhere and said, "For your behavior, all of you should be expelled!"
All of them headed back to their classes. After that, I never heard stories about them bullying him, and this strengthened our bond. So people should know how to overcome these situations like Rahul and I did.
One lesson we learnt was that when some students are bullying you, never yield to them, which means don't get annoyed unnecessarily and be calm and tough. Above all, do consult the teachers mainly your Principal. Never forget to take the help of seniors and friends too.
