Best Day Ever

Best Day Ever

Sophie woke up to sunshine streaming through her window. Today felt different—special—even though nothing unusual was planned. She slipped on her orange dress with the big yellow flower in the middle, the one that always made her feel like she was carrying a piece of sunshine.

When she stepped outside, the world seemed brighter. The air was crisp, the grass sparkled with dew, and in the park nearby, a man was giving away colourful balloons. Sophie chose a bunch—red, yellow, blue, and orange—and held them tight as they bobbed above her like cheerful little planets.

She skipped through the park, her balloons swaying with each step. Children waved at her, a puppy barked happily at the bouncing colors, and even the old gardener tipped his hat with a smile. Sophie felt like she was carrying joy in her hands and sharing it with everyone she passed.

At the pond, she spotted a boy frowning at his paper boat stuck in the reeds. Sophie knelt down, stretched out her arm, and freed it. The boy’s face lit up. In return, he gave her a shiny marble, “for good luck.”

As the day went on, Sophie collected more tiny treasures—smiles, laughter, a flower tucked behind her ear by a stranger. By evening, her heart felt as full as the sky turning pink with sunset.

When her mother asked, “So, what made today the best day ever?” Sophie grinned.

“Everything,” she said. “Because I decided it was.”
