An Unsung Hero of the Freedom Movement
An Unsung Hero of the Freedom Movement
“In the pre-independence period ’’ said Grandpa who was reciting a story to the kids of the housing society on the eve of Independence Day. Ashok a soldier in the British rule but an Indian in origin took up the job for satisfying his earthly needs. Inspite of being part of British army, somewhere inside his heart he always knew that he was acting injustly towards his country and his people.
He had a son whom he loved a lot and wanted him to be a good human being. Ashok wanted to set a good example before his son. Being part of the British army was contradictory to it. Ashok also knew that if he joins the freedom movement to set an example he shall be punished to death. But he did so for his son. Exclaimed Grandpa heavy voice!!!
During the mid ’50s there was a great
patriot who was well known for his selflessness, devotion, sacrifice, and loyalty for his country, he was also sentenced to Kalapani twice. He was so influential that people were ready to sacrifice their lives on his word. Years later when India was freed from the clutches of British. On the occasion of Independence Day speech the great patriot revealed that the infamous British soldier “Ashok” was his father. That’s the end of the story said Grandpa. That’s simply amazing said Ria one of the child, who was listing the story. Grandpa what was the name of the great freedom fighter please let us know” Ria enquired curiously. Prakash Verma Grandpa replied and the children eyes popped out from there socket as Grandpa himself was Prakash Verma.
Moral: A True patriot does not crave for any recognition.
