June, 1925.

London, England.

It was 14th of June when I was with my mum in the kitchen helping her cook our dinner meal when I heard a cry in the backyard. So I went on to check the backyard and found no one there seriously. Then I straight went to check on my brother and he was sleeping in his cradle. Then the dinner was ready and we had it. We then went to our respective rooms. I clearly remember that I heard a strange cry or like a cry from someone in pain but it mostly seemed like a cry from a baby. I was lost in this thought whole night and wasen't able to sleep. But somehow the night passed.

"Julia!!"

And there she called. It was mum early in the morning waking me up. I yawned and rolled in my small yet comfortable bed and finally woke up.

"Yah mom! Why so early in the morning?"

I asked her in my thin voice.

"You forgot child today's your first day of your 3rd grade and you are getting late."

She said me staring with a sweet smile on her face.

I chuckled. She carefully took me in her arms and gave me a hug full of warmth. I gave her my usual morning kiss on her cheeks and then she tingled softly in my stomach. I laughed. Me, an eight year old girl went straight into the bathroom to get a proper bath on time. Then I had my breakfast. While having my breakfast I memorised the last evening and that cry popped up in my mind. I asked my mother about it but she said it may be our neighbour's daughter Susy. But I know it was a cry from a baby not from that 6 year old Susy. So, I decided to again have a proper check in the backyard. After returning from school, I threw my bag on the couch and went straight to the backyard and know what, I found a wooden basket covered with a white fluffy towel like cloth kept outside our backyard door.

I took it inside. I showed it to my mum and she removed the cloth gently. We found a baby inside. The baby was small and gentle with a small mark on her head. Her eyes were like big pearls got stuck to her skin and what about her lips, they were rosy. She was looking here and there taking a whole look of our hall. She appeared to be cute. I asked mum if we can have her as our new family member. She rejected at first because she wanted to know her real family but then she agreed after knowing that the baby had no one as her family member from the people in our colony. And yes we adopted Millie.
