A BLAST FROM THE PAST

A BLAST FROM THE PAST

The sun was shining brightly and the cold wind blew rapidly while I walked on the bumpy cemented road of Fort Street. It was 23rd March 2022. The time was thirty minutes past eleven o' clock. Fort Street was noticeably empty. A few people were paying for hour parking tickets to ensure their cars would not get towed. Some workers at a local coffee shop were cleaning off tables on the patio. At that moment Fort Street looked boring and uninteresting. The next thirty minutes past by slowly as visitors and regulars started to trickle in. The street quickly filled soon after 12p.m. with cowboys and cowgirls of all ages riding on their horses.

Most of the buildings on Fort Street were for entertainment. I walked closely towards a building; one foot in front of the other. Once I reached the building, I stopped. Next to the building that caught my attention was another small building. On the building gate, it was written "Life Size Pac-Man Maze". When I went further inside, I saw the listed prices of admission to participate in the maze. To my surprise it was a maze! I was intrigued by the idea of a "Life Size Pac-Man Maze. Years ago, before android mobiles or iPhones were invented, I remembered playing the famous Pac-Man Maze Game on my desktop computer.

Pac-Man is an arcade video game that was made by Namco and designed by Toru Iwatani. It was released in 1980, and became very popular in the history of games. In Pac-Man, the player makes a Pac-Man, a yellow disc, move around a maze. The ghosts are Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. The goal is to eat every yellow pellet (circles) while not getting caught by the ghosts/monsters. For extra points, fruits that appear can also be eaten.

I remembered how addicted I was to this wonderful game. Now, after so many years, I got an opportunity to experience a "Life Size Pac-Man Maze" where I would get to be Pac-man.

I walked up to the glass window and was greeted by a jolly old man. I quickly purchased a ticket to enter the maze. They dressed me up as Pac-Man. I went through the maze collecting paper pellets and escaping the funny little ghosts. What fun it was! I scored several points but finally got caught by a ghost. But nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the maze.

This "Life Size Pac-Man Maze" brought back fond memories of the Pac-Man video game which I was addicted to years ago. It was indeed "A Blast from the past"!
