Telephone
Telephone
In my childhood, I wondered how
It carried the voices, through the wire.
Nostalgic memories,
Of waiting around the
Sitting room with family
The ring creates a ripple.
In anticipated guess.
Missed calls,
Created mixed curiosity.
The slot for slashed call rates
Made many wait for their turn
In along queues outside the booths.
Now, a small rectangular handheld gadget,
Mobile has replaced many things,
Including the joy of talking.
It has even replaced
Letters and watches
Cameras and torches
Calendars and books
Calculators and televisions
Computers and printers
Even money, banks, and more.
Relationships are endangered now.
Even though the world is at our fingertips
It does not connect the hearts anymore.
Does not evoke true emotions
As if emotions travel through wires.
The only solace is its video call,
Where you see your loved ones
On the screen for a few minutes.
Transporting you to their close proximity
For the time being.
