Teacher, I just wanted to say......

Everyone watched breathlessly

One chap even clapped in glee

And then you walked in.

I stammered incoherently-

‘First, he pushed my chair

only then I pulled his hair.’

He smiled to look convincing-

‘We honestly weren’t fighting

just having a little bit of fun

we are good friends - ask anyone.’

He looked around to see

If anyone dared disagree.

You were not convinced

And we both knew it

The scattered books, the desks gone awry

Told their own little tell-tale story

but the punishment you gave was unfair

For a month, a bench made us share

Something I’ll not forget in a hurry

Because that’s when I found my best buddy.
