Smile

Someone once asked me some time ago,

If I always kept smiling, no matter what may come or go!

She asked, “Do you have a reason to smile, or you’re just hexed?”

Listening to her, I was rendered perplexed.

I stopped in my way and gave her words a thought,

Was it a crime to smile, cause apparently, it was to not!

I said, ‘Yes, I always have a smile on my face,

It seldom loses its place.’

‘There are numerous reasons to smile,

To explain to you, it might take a little while.

There are many reasons to smile about.

For once, smiling always makes you feel better, inside out.’

All it takes is a curve of your lips,

From a single smile, tons of kindness drips. 

A smile is the cheapest thing on the Earth,

Maybe that’s why we underestimate its worth.

A single smile is enough to make someone’s day!

It is what might prevent a wayward soul from going astray.

But these are all big things, you see?

It’s actually the little things that truly appeal to me.

Smile, cause you have a roof over your head,

Smile, cause you happen to sleep in a bed.

Smile because you have amazing friends who love you,

Smile because you’ve found a love that’s unconditionally true!

Smile when life throws hurdles your way,

Because after a few days, they’ll over welcome their stay.

Your problems are not in your control, your smile is,

Your troubles aren’t constant, but your smile is, sis! 

Your smile gives you strength in difficult times, hun.

A smile lightens you up, as bright as the sun.

Even smile when life brings you down.

Because life is too short to live with a frown,

Clouds always hover around your existence,

But that isn’t an excuse to justify your resistance.

Yes, things sometimes may seem mundane and bland.

But darling, you are not the only one dealt a risky hand. 

Today you might not find that silver lining,

But you won’t ever find it if you give up trying!

Troubles around you will always pile.

But the only way you can overcome it is if you smile.
