Prompt – 30: The Mismatched Masquerade

In a land where dreams collide and clash,

There lived a man with an audacious dash.

He yearned to be what he was not,

A mimicry of styles, a tangled plot.

He donned a dhoti with pride and flair,

Yet shirtless, his chest exposed to the air.

Cross-legged he sat, like an Englishman grand,

But oh, his gestures seemed out of hand.

His hair, oh, his hair, a tangled mess,

Styled like an English celebrity, no less.

But alas, it didn't suit his Indian grace,

A mismatched spectacle, all over the place.

Jewelry adorned his body, sparkling bright,

An attempt to shine, to catch the light.

But the ornaments mocked his true essence,

A foolish display of misplaced pretence.

With makeup applied, he sought fairer skin,

To resemble the English, a folly within.

But his true complexion, a beauty untold,

Lost in the layers of the mask he'd mould.

And as he puffed on his hookah with delight,

A gesture of flamboyance, a grandiose sight,

The laughter erupted wherever he'd go,

A spectacle of absurdity, for all to show.

For in his attempt to imitate another's grace,

He became a caricature, a clown in the race.

Oh, the irony of his misplaced endeavour,

A reminder that authenticity is a treasure to savour.

Let us learn from his whimsical display,

To embrace ourselves, in our unique way.

For in the dance of life, let us be true,

And find joy in being authentically you.
