Moonlight
Moonlight

Oh! royal queen of the velvet sky
What keeps you glued up so high?
Where you shimmer with your enormous crew,
Basking in the glow of the golden hue
That the king so generously showers on you.
You lie in peace in your sweet retreat
And sometimes rise up early to meet
The eager beings who bloom with bliss
Yearning for their mistress' kiss.
As the night starts slow, a soft breeze blows
The clock ticks by and the whole world snores
In the dark quietude when only the bats flap by
Or perched on the tree, the owl gives a cry
You peek from the clouds and gently rise
To guide those love-soaked souls, all disguised
That congregate under secluded roofs
To pour out equal shares of joy and woe.
Amazed, they watch you till you
fade
Recounting the juvenile promises they made
Of living, loving, leading life together,
Of holding on through thick 'n' thin forever.
Even while treading on unknown, dubious path
Inviting the ruthless world's wrath,
They sail through hardships hard to bear
And they feel no fear, they shed no tear.
The gentle guiding light that you throw
Makin' the silent city abruptly aglow,
You tend to cheer up the lonely lives
That welcome you with a relieved sigh.
The night-wanderers give an excited cry
So do the workmen who dwell not nigh
Or a maiden mother feeding her child,
Or a passionate writer in the poets' guild.
Such is the warmth of your distant light
As is the prior's love for a destitute's plight;
Amiable, comforting, unbiased; spread far and wide
Walking like a comrade by the side
Of every content and doleful soul
That's in the quest of an identity and role.
