In Fear

There once was a girl

Small and sweet

On the way to school

Lots of friends to meet.

On the way, she saw

Blocking the road

A family of monkeys

Each with eyes dark and cold.

She stopped

Struck with fear

Legs frozen sold

Dare not go near.

Five long minutes passed

The girl staring at the monkeys

Monkeys at the girl

All ill at ease.

Then, she decided

To run away

Leave the monkeys behind

For another day.

She began running

As fast as she could

The monkeys at her heels

As fast as they could.

On the way back

She saw a wise old man

Wishing to seek help

To him, she ran.

Eyes on the monkeys

She explained her part

Poured out vehemently

The fear in her heart.

The man smiled

A smile wise and old

Cleared his throat

And to her, he told

"Don't run away

That is the trick

 Run towards them

And see the magic."

So she turned back and ran towards

Towards the monkeys who on seeing her

Ran hither-tither, scattering like birds

In fear.
