College Life
College Life
Dressed to impress and hair all tied,
Hearts in a flutter and the mouth all dried.
A smart boy, a timid girl, a bookworm and a jock,
Enter the college gates and behold the change in shock.
The toll of the school bell is replaced by a trin,
The silence of the schoolroom is replaced by a constant din.
Stuttering and stammering, the girl learns to orate,
The geek soon finds a mystical land beyond the library gate.
The cocoon unwraps and out emerges a butterfly,
When the casanova finds himself gaping, he soon realizes why.
Likely, unlikely bonds are formed,
Lasting or short, the bliss is unharmed.
Beginnings end and the middle begins,
A taste of new and yet a sense of the old sustains.
Friendships are stronger; lovers’ tiffs are shorter,
Self-discovery begins and the college space feels homelier.
The knowledge base expands and new possibilities open,
What feels like a million years ago, are the school memories, they pen.
Stealthily creeps up the beginning of the end,
Lovers move away while broken friendships mend.
Wondrous, bashful teenagers evolve,
Into passionate and bright leaders with resolve.
The world beckons them to rise,
But the world left behind has happy memories that fill up their eyes.
