AN OLD ENGAGEMENT
AN OLD ENGAGEMENT
As he rested outside her cabin; in hospital,
Flashbacks of old days came uninviting; in a place(hospital) so brutal,
Fifty years ago; today; he remembered; when he first saw her,
Her rosy lips, enchanting smile; DEAR LORD; he fell for her,
Her voice; her care for others; she appeared so enigmatic,
That he fell; on her knees; asking her out; in a weather so romantic,
They dated; traveled; their romance was going strong,
Got engaged; on today's date; after convincing their familes so long,
Stood aside; side by side; faced all the upheavals,
But still they kissed and smiled; every once in a while; without any pain to reveal,
'BUT TODAY, WILL SHE LEAVE MY SIDE'; thought the old man still so young,
"SHE IS ASKING FOR YOU";called the nurse, interrupting his thoughts so long,
"Hi BABE, YOU STILL LOOK HOT", said the old man still so flirty,
Brought a smile; in her wrinkled face; that still appeared so arty,
"BYE HONEY, GOTTA GO"; said the young lady in a body so old,
"WAIT HONEY"; blinked the man; while bringing out that ring; laden with gold,
"WILL YOU MARRY ME AGAIN PLEASE"; asked he; as he knelt down for her; perhaps for last time,
"YES HONEY, FOREVER AND EVER"; she said and trembled, as the monitor on ECG displayed a straight line.
