The Wisest Son
The Wisest Son
In a village called Balwantpur, there lived an old farmer. He had three sons. With age, the man was becoming ill and feeble. He knew he would die soon. One day he called his sons into his room and said, “I do not have a big farm to divide it amongst the three of you. I will give you a task and give you twenty-four hours’ time, whoever can prove himself to be the wisest will inherit my farmland.” All three sons agreed to his proposal.
He gave a hundred rupee note to each of his sons and said, “Buy something that will fill my room.”
So, the next day the sons were called one by one. The eldest son had brought three sacks full of hay. He spread them on the floor, but it filled only two corners of the room. The farmer called the second son. He had brought sacks full of feathers. He spread it on the floor. It filled three corners of the room. Finally, the man called his youngest son. He took out two small things from his pocket, but it filled the entire room.
The old man was thrilled with joy. “You are indeed very wise. I will give my farm to you.”
