I will never be able to forget the May of 2018. Summer was in its full bloom and it was vacation time for me. I was playing hide and seek with my friends. I, my friend Anokhi and her cousin Varada hid behind the bushes. Soon, we could hear Radha coming near the bushes where we were hiding, to catch us. So, we tiptoed out of the bushes and went near the place where people park their bicycles. We hid behind five-six bicycles so that she could not catch us. At that time, Varada realised she had left her bag behind the bushes. But she couldn't bring her bag back as Radha was searching for all of us out there. She decided to take her bag later.

After some time, when we had played a lot of hide and seek, Anokhi and Varada decided to go home early as Varada had to go back to her home in Uttar Pradesh that night with her parents. But she would come back again next year to Pune. The next day we came to know from Anokhi that Varada had left her bag behind as she had forgotten to collect it from the garden. I, Anokhi and Radha rushed down to the garden from the stairs of our building and could see that bag from a distance, as it was behind the bushes. It was open and a zip-lock was peeping outside. Before we could reach for the bag, some small kids took the bag and ran away. We were too far off to catch the kids. Later on, we saw the kids going home but the bag wasn't in their hands. So, we started searching for the bag and the zip-lock and luckily found it near 'B2' building. The bag was again open and it was empty. We searched for the zip- lock but couldn't find it. Soon, we gave up looking for the zip-lock as it was getting dark.

The next day our friend Anokhi told us that her cousin Varada's zip-lock had a book inside it. No one knew how the book looked like. Months passed by. We forgot about the zip-lock with time. One fine day, we found a book lying on the grass where the people sit on the benches. (We did not know that it was Varada's book at that time). We asked everyone around," Is this book yours ?" All of them answered, " No !". So, we decided to keep the book with us unless and until we found its rightful owner. Anokhi held the book in her hand and all of a sudden what we saw is still unbelievable. The book turned into a pencil and broke into two uneven pieces. The first part of the pencil turned into a sheet of paper. We were spellbound with our mouths open in awe!

Suddenly, some words started appearing on the sheet of paper and became a sentence. We at once read it aloud," Write anything on me and it will become true !" Instantly, Anokhi started writing on it with her hands shaking and all of our heartbeats getting faster and louder. She asked for some candies to appear and she had some in her hands in a jiffy. It was very shocking but true. Then, we asked her to write, "Dear Paper…Your owner must be missing your magic. Who is your owner..???" All of a sudden, the pencil and the sheet of paper joined together and turned into a blade of grass and started floating in the air. Slowly, the blade of grass vanished into thin air. We had goosebumps all over!

We sat on the bench thinking and discussing how the book transformed magically and vanished. A few moments later, a guard came to us and told us there was someone calling us over the landline. We asked him, " Which building's landline are you talking about?" He replied, "A1 building". We rushed near A1 building to answer the call. It was Anokhi's cousin Varada on the phone. She told us," I wanted to talk to all of you right now. The book which I had lost in your society just came back flying to me as a blade of grass." We were truly astonished to hear this and told her about the whole incident of the book turning into a blade of grass. She started giving us information on the book and said, " This book is more than a thousand years old and belongs to my ancestors. It came to me one fine day and I found it in my school bag by chance. It is a mysterious book. Its pages are made from a rare magical plant wood and so it can do many magical things like coming back to its rightful owner if lost. My mother and grandmother too had found this book by chance in their school days. " We asked her if the blade of grass was intact. She said, " The blade of grass has turned back into the book again and is with me."

We asked her, "Did your mother tell you that it belonged to your ancestors?" She replied, "No, the book wrote this thing on its pages itself by magic." Then we asked her, "What other magic the book can do?". She said," Well... there are so many things which I cannot reveal to all of you right now. Please don't tell anyone about this book …"

A year passed by. We still couldn't forget the mysterious book and hoped that Varada would bring it back with her when she visits Pune during her summer vacation. I know the book would still be doing its magic very well. If you are reading this story, I hope that you will also keep this story a secret, until I come up again with another untold mystery…
