The Storm Within

I am sitting in the balcony of my flat overlooking the Arabian Sea. The sky is very dark; it has been raining since last five days.

Everyone in the family seems so busy. My son, Sachin is busy with his office work on his laptop even after coming home. In the spare time, he picks up fights on social media about politics. Veena, my daughter-in-law is on Whatsapp. She has many Whatsapp groups starting from school to the office. Rohith-my grandson looks as if the earphones of his iPod are glued to his ears. He plays loud music, watches violent animated cartoons on the TV and also plays a lot of computer games. Rohith, once a calm child has now grown into an impatient, uncontrollable boy with a little loss of hearing.

With a deep sigh, I closed the door to the balcony.

Since a holiday is declared, I knew that everyone will be at home today. I went in, expecting everyone to be busy in their own world and there they were. Suddenly the power went off and there was a commotion of cursing the electricity board.

For few more hours everyone was busy with their mobiles and games. After that the batteries died down. I could see the conversations picking up. By noon I could hear laughter. Later we all sat down for the lunch. After many years we had proper interactions over a meal. I came out to the balcony to hide my tears. I could feel that the storm is only outside the home. I could see the calmness and also the glowing hope inside the home. I closed the door tightly behind me to shut off the storm outside and joined my family.
