Poor Kentaro was worried as his mother was very sick. Also he had no money to buy medicine and food for her. The village doctor had also refused to cure her without any fees for him. His last and only hope was his uncle who was his only relative in that village. Earlier he was also poor like them but in due of time he became rich as his business flourished. With the coming of money his attitude grew and paid no heed to the problems of the people having less money and also disrespected them. Due to his attitude, he did not even help Kentaro in such a condition and told him to never ever show his face anywhere around. Melancholic and helpless he left and went into the forest where he wept with his face covered under the shade of a tree. At that very moment, an old man happened to be passing by that tree.

On seeing poor Kentaro, he asked what was the matter and why was he crying. He told the old man his condition and on listening to it he thought for a while and then began searching for something in his cloth bag. He then removed a wooden slipper from his bag and told Kentaro that it was a magic slipper and that if he would jump wearing it a gold coin would drop out of the slipper. The old man also told him that his height would shrink by a little when he would remove a gold coin from the slipper and that a little bit of rest would make him regain his original state. He also warned him that he should not remove too many gold coins from the slipper as it would make him as tiny as a mosquito and he would not be able to regain his original state.

On gaining the magic slipper he became very happy and rushed home to try it out. A gold coin dropped out when he jumped wearing that magic slipper. Using that gold coin he bought medicines and food for his mother who regained her heath due to her son's encounter with the old man. Soon, word spread around the village about Kentaro's magic slipper. Even his uncle heard about it and due to greed, he came to Kentaro's house to take the magic slipper from him. Kentaro gave him the magic slipper as he was his uncle and that now his mother had recovered and he no more needed the slipper. His uncle left with the magic slipper excited.

Soon it encountered to him that he had forgotten to tell his uncle about the shrinking of height. He then rushed towards his uncle's house to tell him about that but it was too late, there was a heap of gold coins in his uncle's backyard. He then saw something on the slipper, on looking closely he realized that it was his uncle and that he shrunken to as small as a mosquito. He thought that this condition of his uncle was only due to his greed and that he had received the punishment that he deserved for being rude to others. He then wrapped up the heap of gold coins in a cloth and went home. Using the gold coins Kentaro and his mother lead the life of Riley.
