Those lovely pair of brown eyes, which innocently yearned at Sheeba to be picked up melted Sheeba’s heart away. She was on her way to work and could only stop by at the side walk to take a glimpse at those lovely eyes and walk away. She had to reach work on time as she had a client meeting set up first thing in the morning.
So reluctantly she just continued walking towards her office without turning back to pay attention to the beauty on the street. As soon as she reached office, she got caught up in the rigmarole of work and at the end of the busy day, totally exhausted, Sheeba left the office. As soon as she stepped on the sidewalk, she remembered the beauty. As was the case for the past 2 days, she spotted her coiled up in a corner, sleeping near a shop. Although Sheeba wanted to spend some time with her, she didn’t have the heart to wake her up and she just walked past her. She decided that she would probably spend some time with the little one, the next day.
As they say ‘Man proposes, God disposes’. Sheeba walked towards her office enthusiastically, to meet up with the little beauty. But to her utter dismay, the little one was nowhere to be seen. All sorts of weird thoughts ran through her mind. What if someone had done something to her? Or what she had met with an accident and been injured or worse, been killed? Or if someone had just taken her?
She just looked at the shops and buildings nearby but the little one was nowhere to be seen. With a heavy heart, she reached office. But she couldn’t concentrate on her work and at lunch time, she was back at the sde walk. There were a few street vendors on the same side walk and she began asking them if they had spotted the little one. Luckily, a tender coconut vendor had spotted her and in fact let her sleep under her cart. The reason, she had hurt her leg and there was a wound on it. He had only managed to do some first aid because he didn’t know any doctor whom he could take her to nor did he want to spend too much money for that.
With a sigh of relief, Sheeba took the little one in her arms. She searched for a Veterinary doctor nearby and luckily she found one just 4 blocks away from where she was. The website that the doctor was available for another hour or so and she quickly rushed the beauty to him. Within no time, first aid was done; Sheeba was given instructions of what had to be done and Sheeba was back with the tender coconut vendor. The little beauty was left in his care and Sheeba headed back to office. Although she had a little explaining to do to her boss, the hour spent was worth it.
She quickly finished her pending work and left from office. She walked towards the block of the Veterinary doctor. There was a shop of Pet supplies in the same building, she quickly bought some basic stuff and went to the tender coconut vendor who was waiting for her. With the little beauty neatly tucked in the basket that she had picked up from the shop, Sheeba started for her home. She knew she had taken off too much by adopting the little beauty, whom she had mentally named as Cookie. But she also knew she would manage it. The monotony of the daily schedule had been frustrating her but she hoped that the little bundle of joy would bring some cheer to her dull life.
It was a matter of 3-4 days till Rinku Tai, her maid came back to work. After that, she would be able to easily manage the little one. Till then, she had made an arrangement with Makrand, the tender coconut vendor that he would take care of Cookie during day time. As she was involved in some very important projects, it was impossible to take the days off and she just had to get some arrangements done.
Thinking so, she reached home and quickly got Cookie settled in her new cosy bed and spread some toys for her to play with. She had also bought some food stuff for her, after consulting the doctor. As she was busy arranging all Cookie’s stuff, Cookie came near her and started wagging her tail. When Sheeba bent down to check on Cookie, she started licking her face as if thanking her for giving her a new home.
Sheeba immediately knew that impulsive or not, she had made a right decision to bringing Cookie home and also that she had signed up for unconditional and infinite love for life.
