Once, on a fine Sunday, I accompanied my grandpa for a walk in the garden. My grandfather joined his friends for a walk and I started playing with the plants. I was amazed to see so many plants with different kinds of leaves. The big Banana leaf looked like an elephant trunk. Hibiscus leaf like a sparrow, Neem leaf like a fish, Cactus leaf like a sparrow and some of the dead leaves lying on the ground looked like grasshoppers. I picked up a fallen leaf and watched it closely. I was astonished to see carving and lines on it. My grandfather helped me to discover the miracle of a leaf. He said plants can be identified by looking at their leaves which are different and unique. They are green in color due to the presence of chlorophyll. A leaf has a flat part called leaf blade which can be broad or narrow. Each leaf has a line in the center called midrib and many lines coming out of it known as veins. They help in the transportation of water and minerals for the preparation of food. There are thousands of tiny openings called stomata through which air flows in and out of the leaf. Leaf is also called as the food factory or kitchen of the plant as it prepares food for the plants. I realized that leaves are a miracle and an important part of a plant.
