The Great War
The Great War
Before the Great War, dragons were as common as humans and they coexisted. For many years they understood each other’s ways and helped each other, until an evil mage who despised dragons and poisoned the hearts of man and corrupted their love towards the beloved dragons. This is when the Great War of Ardonia began.
Humans started attacking dragon nests and the dragons reacted by burning their foes to crisp. Some of the dragons were slain by the mage. During this time rose the dark dragons, whose mysterious powers were far too strong for even the mighty mage to defeat. But to stop risking the lives of other dragons, the leader of the dark dragons decided to disappear until man forgot they even existed.
After a few centuries, the evil mage was finally killed when he challenged a Gorgon, a creature who turns her victims to stone with a single glare. After the mages death, man’s curse was lifted and their hearts became pure again. The humans were ashamed of their actions and promised never to hurt dragons if they ever returned.
One afternoon, a young warrior named Scot was walking near the foot of the mountain outside his village, and stumbled upon four dragon eggs. He took the eggs and gave one each to his three brothers. Gary, the oldest chose the Storm Dragon egg since he loved the dragons that could summon thunder. Clark, the youngest choose the Ice Dragon egg since he liked how the dragons would form small icicles to roost. James chose the bronze egg as he loved the metallic look on the dragons. And there was only one more egg left which was a Dark Dragon egg. Scot was happy to have it since they are graceful and feared by everyone. They didn’t want to let the village know about the eggs as they feared it might cause a big scandal.
After the eggs hatched the village eventually came to know about the dragons and instead of causing a scene they offered to help the dragons grow and became fearless warriors. Over time, they made a dragon forge to craft indestructible metal made out of dragon breath, known as dragon steel used to make armor.
One day the brothers came to know that the king of Birchwood, a neighboring kingdom announced that anyone who defeats the Hydra, a ruthless three-headed beast would receive unique magical swords in exchange. The brothers thought it through and offered to fight it but the king laughed as he thought they looked like farmer boys.
The brothers went to the twilight forest and found the great beast. They fought it for hours until they finally killed it with the help of their dragons. The brothers brought back the three hydra heads and received the magical swords.
They continued their journey in search of new adventures and stumbled upon a burned village. They set the dragons down and checked for any survivors but there were none. It seemed the attack was out of hate as there were a lot of treasures kept in an opened vault. They also found different types of armor for people and dragons. The brothers decided to follow the trail of fire leading to a tunnel but their dragons would not fit, they needed to find a way. Clark had an idea to dig an entrance big enough for the dragons. They dug a big enough tunnel for the dragons and found a kingdom guarded by dragons of fire and ice on the other end of the tunnel. They tried to sneak into the kingdom but their dragons scent gave them away. A fight broke out and the kingdom’s soldiers along with their guard dragons captured the brothers and their dragons and brought them to their King. On their way to the palace, they noticed a lot of dragons in captivity.
The King interrogated them and the brothers said they followed the fire from the burnt village. They asked the king not to harm the nearby villagers. The king burst into laughter hearing this. He ordered them to be locked up, and to chain the dragons along with the others in captivity.
The brothers desperately looked for a way out and one of them found a lever opening their cell but it was too far to reach. They made a hook from the lamp in the cell and wrapped it with a rope to make a grapple. After a few tries, they managed to hook the lever and open their cell by pulling it. They sneaked into the room beside the prison where their armors and swords were dumped and retrieved them. They then fought their way out of the prison and ran towards their dragons. They let the dragons lose, and with their help, the brothers defeated the King’s guards.
They then rescued the other dragons chained by the King, and left for their village with them, along with the treasures they could gather. Soon their tiny village turned into a powerful kingdom protected by dragons. Little did they know that the evil King survived and was out seeking revenge.
