The Demon And The Dacoit

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Priya who lived in a small village near the forest. She was very playful and would always get into trouble. One morning, she was following a butterfly and wandered off into the forest. She came across a huge tree and found a hermit sitting under it. She found the hermit funny-looking and could not help laughing. Her loud laughter disturbed the hermit and he became furious. He cursed Priya that she would turn into a demon every midnight and will become human just before sunrise. Priya was heartbroken. She asked for forgiveness. The hermit told her of a way to free herself from the curse. When she turns into a demon, she would need to go and kill a dacoit who had been terrorizing and looting the villagers.

 

Priya agreed and went back home. She found out from the villagers that the dacoit and his men lived near the river. At midnight, Priya turned into a demon and set out to find the dacoit. She spotted a huge hut where the dacoit was sleeping. She silently moved in and attacked the dacoit. She strangled him with her powerful hands before he could utter a cry. The dacoit’s men woke up. Seeing the demon, they ran away in fright.

 

It was time for the sun to rise. Priya regained her human form. She reached home and slept soundly. She was happy that she was finally freed from her curse. The next day, the whole village rejoiced that the dacoit was dead and their troubles were over.
