The Cruel King

The Cruel King

Most of the nations have abandoned the idea of royalty and gone for democracy. Even those who have kings or queens as their heads of state, don’t vest much power in them. There are, however, a few states where the king is all-powerful. Still the idea of cruel king is almost buried.

However, there are states in which leaders chosen by people turn into dictators and suppress common freedoms of their people. They are worse than even any cruel king as they have a pretence of being chosen by the people.

This is the story of one such ruler who became a king. He was born in a common peasant family. His parents tried to cultivate values of hard work and honesty in him. But the boy displayed the traits of cruelty right from childhood. As a child he used to beat hapless animals. When he grew up, he started bullying his peers in the school. His parents tried to discipline him but any punishment had opposite effect on him.

He joined a political party and rose to the top with the mix of ruthlessness and cunning. Finally, he became the president of the country. Soon he turned his country into a monarchy and declared himself as king.

His reputation as a king far exceeded of any other king in the country’s history. He continued to rule the country for a long time. People were very unhappy during his rule but many did not revolt as they were afraid of repercussions.

The man became old, yet remained powerful. He was finally overthrown with the help of a country that cared for democratic values. He was hanged by the people on a busy crossing.

It is true that neither good nor bad times last for ever. The powerful kingdoms of yesterday become history of today.
