The Companion
The Companion
He was alone. Everyday was a struggle for him. Being an orphan, he had no one to take care of.
He lived in a small cardboard box, in a street. He did simple jobs for a living, like cleaning shoes, carrying water cans and trash bags, cleaning windows etc. He had no friends, neither had he gone to a school.
He was alone, scared and unloved.
One night, he felt something brushing against his feet. Startled, he woke up, only to see a small kitten brushing its fur against his toes. With a single glance, he realized what it wanted; something to fill its tiny tummy, and someone to give a bit of love. The kitten was living his life. Thankfully, he had both. He knew that moment was precious.
He hugged the kitten, and fed it a small piece of leftover bread from the previous day.
Nothing changed here, he kept living his daily life. But this time, he was not alone. He now had a tiny companion.
Together, they made each other's life bearable and happier.
Empathy serves better than sympathy.
