Tenali Raman's Boon Pt 1

Vijayanagra(present day South India), a beautiful kingdom ruled by king Krishnadevraya. He was a courtier in his palace like Akbar had Birbal. 

Tenali Raman- I used to live in a small village named as Tenali. Once, I was sleeping with peace down a tree with my cat Sundari. Suddenly, a saint yogi came across me and raised me. I opened my eyes and saw his face. I asked him why did you wake me up?

Yogi- You are young and you have an age to study and work while you are wasting your time in sleeping?

Raman- Well I was just doing it for a while. 

Yogi- Go to mother Kaali's temple, meditate! She is the goddesses goddess! She ruins negativity. Go now, and pray her heartedly.

Raman- After saying this, he disappeared, I decided to visit mother Kaali's temple. So my journey begun. After several hours of travelling me and Sundari arrived at mother Kaali's mountain. There were nearly 4000 steps and we were so tired of walking. 

Yogi- Get up Raman, Listen to me carefully, I will teach you a mantra if you chant it form the bottom of your heart, mother Kaali's mountain. There were nearly 4000 steps and we were so tired of walking. 

Yogi- Get up Raman, Listen to me carefully, I will teach you a mantra if you chant it form the bottom of your heart, mother Kaali will appear in front of you! 

Raman-Well that is easy

Yogi- No! You will have to chant the mantra one lakh times!! 

Raman- He taught me that mantra and left as he said to make mother Kaali happy. He told to get good health & become rich. Me and Sundari, fearfuly entered the temple. It was a scary place, we saw mother Kaali's big idol with eight hands. I started chanting 'Jai Kaali maa'. I continued chanting and soon it turned afternoon into evening. All of a sudden, the statue cracked open and goddess Kaali was in front of my eyes. I could barely see the light. Her nine heads were visible. 

Kaali- I am very happy as you chanted for me. Ask me whatever you want. 

Raman- I want to ask you a question, when I feel ill I have a running nose and I somehow manage to clean it. But you have so many heads, how do you do it?

Kaali- Oh come on, I do it with my eight hands. I liked you kid, you are pretty confident. I have two bowls in my hands a silver one on the right and golden one in the left. The golden bowl has milk and silver bowl has curd. If you drink the milk, you will become genius and if you drink curd you will become very rich. 

Raman- Mother Kaali, can you give it to me, I will decide. 

I drank both the milk and curd at once. 

Kaali- How dare you drink both of them!
