It was the month of December .Cool breeze was blowing. The weather was not clear with dense fog engulfing the surroundings.  I was sitting at the platform waiting for my train to arrive.

Beside me there was a middle class family sitting  with their daughter  aged around  4-5 years and a son, 2-3 years old. I could see the girl hopping here and there on the platform. So cheered up and full of life. At last the train arrived and after all hustle and bustle I managed to occupy a seat for myself. That family also got little space for them and just like any other they were trying to adjust themselves. Both husband and wife sat with their son on their lap and that girl was staring at them with a hope that she will also get a place to sit. But she did not.

The train was on its way.  After a while a vendor came in selling toys. The son pointing to one of  the toys, asked his mother to buy him that one. The father paid for the toy and within no time his demand was fulfilled. But when the girl asked for the same she was asked to keep her mouth shut, she was scolded and then she kept quiet.

I asked that vendor for the toy for the girl but her  mother  interrupted by saying that her daughter should keep her desires in limit because she will eventually go to someone's else home but it is the son who will remain with them. I was shocked with the mother's statement. But that girl was strong enough; she found her happiness by seeing his brother play with the toy. Suddenly during this conversation, 4-5 armed crooks entered the train and took hold of that little boy and started asking for every precious thing we all had or otherwise threatened to throw the boy. Seeing her brother in danger that girl begged those robbers and pleadingly said,"Take me away but please leave my brother". She reapeatedly said these words and during all this course the girl suddenly slipped and there was a loud scream saying to her parents that i saved your son and she won't be a burden anymore to them. Though someone pulled the chain but it was too late and there were only tears running down.

Whenever I close my eyes, I could still hear the girl's scream. Salute to all the daughters of the society whose parents consider them as a liability, and their son's as legacy takers but still they are ready to sacrifice their lives for them.
