Musical Pandemonium

Musical Pandemonium

It was a sultry Saturday evening when loud drumbeats could be heard all over the town of Sembel.

Hanna who lived in the 4th-floor apartment was playing her music loudly to drown out the noise of the drums.

The sound of drums was the band practice going on at the nearby building. The all-boys band was led by drummer Jimmy and the lead singer of the band was Mohammed. Suffice to say that the band practice was more like few cats mewling when hot water is thrown on them.

Hanna was fed up with the noise but could do nothing about it because all her complaints fell on deaf ears.

So, one day, as usual, she was playing her music loudly when she heard a knock at the door. She looked through the doorless and saw 2 teenagers, a boy, and a girl at the door. As soon as she opened the door, the 2 kids barged in and said that they like her song selection and if they can have the collection.

They started chatting and Hanna realized how much she enjoyed their company. They wish the deafening music from the band would stop so that they can listen to her music peacefully.

The 3 hatched a plan to stop the band practice.

They went to the market the next day and bought a trumpet. Every evening, Hanna and the 2 kids played the trumpet completely out of tune. It was like a hundred elephants marching into the apartment. They would plug their ears and continue playing.

The first evening, Jimmy came up to Hanna’s apartment to complain about the noise. When he heard that none of them knew how to play, he decided to teach them. So, he joined the cacophony. All of their ears were ringing by the end of the day. This happened for the whole week but he could not teach even a single note to Hanna. He asked Hanna what made her learn an instrument when she did not have a single musical bone in her body. Hanna replied that she was so much inspired listening to their music. She said that if what they played was called music, she can also learn.

Needless to say, no noise permeated her walls from that day onwards and she could spend her evenings peacefully with her new found friends listening to the melodies from her collection.

As to the band practice, they moved it to a remote garage far away from the town. The residents of the town did occasionally complain of strange howling noises emanating from the garage.
