Mom Loves Her Boy

Jaden stood up and tiptoed quietly to his parent's room door. He always did so whenever a controversial issue was going on.

"Ain't you suppose to think about his welfare" that was Mandy; Jaden's mom

"He's going to be fine. He just needs to know what grown-up life is" Kurt; his dad said.

Kurt had insisted that Jaden should study at Harvard University instead of at Chicago University and Jaden has been heads high except for his mom's disapproval. She loved her sixteen-year-old only son and won't let him out of her sight.

"You travel always and you really do not know the company my baby gives to me" she put more emphasis on "company" and felt heartbroken. Kurt sighed.

"Look here Mandy" he called her and she just wiped a tear from her eyes. Kurt laughed a little.

"He's my son too but for crying out loud he's no longer that kid you brush, bath and cream. He's a real guy now and he should be treated as such "He concluded

"I'm a woman and I have feelings" she raised her voice and Kurt just tied his shoes.

'You don't know what mother to child rela--------"

"Honey I'm getting late for work" Kurt interrupted her with a low deep voice

"So can I get my hug now" he opened his arm.

"Hug," Jaden thought and rolled his eyeballs. Time to go. He quietly tiptoed back to his room.

Jaden loved his mom so much but at the same time he didn't want to lose this opportunity. Harvard is great and Chicago is too but there is more freedom and greater opportunity to know more about life.

"What will i do now"he thought

Just then his mom came into his room

"Morning honey" she greeted and walked towards him.

"Morning mom" he greeted her as she sat on his bed.

"How was your night?" she asked as she reached forward to hug him.

"Fine mom" he replied

"So what will you have for breakfast?" she asked him.

"Anything" he replied

"Okay" she gently touched his face and left

Weeks passed and Mandy didn't give in. She and Kurt had arguments and quarells .Jaden heard their voices louder

"Kurt that's my boy, I know how long it took me to have him. You can't just come and take him away from me all in the name of schooling".

"It seems you've forgotten that he's my boy also and not yours only"Kurt will always reply Mandy who ended up crying after every argument.

"Hey mom" Jaden greeted as he entered the house

"Hey honey how're you" she responded as she focused on what she was slicing

'What are you cooking?" Jaden asked her as he picked an Apple

"Creamy chicken Vol-au-vent and wash your hand and that Apple first" she pointed at him with her slicing knife.

Jaden nodded his head and smiled.

"Dad's taking me to the representative tomorrow," he said while he washed his hands. Mandy paused then continued slicing.

"What representative?" she questioned.

Jaden shrugged his shoulders."Harvard university rep".She turned to look at him and focused on her slicing.

"Mom why do you seem to hate the idea of me studying at Harvard. I'm not leaving you and I'm dad son too and he's not obsessed like you are. I'll miss you but you're just gonna let me go" he placed his hand on her shoulders.

"Maybe I should have thought like you." her face was expressionless and Jaden felt lost

"Go up and shower," she said to him and he turned to go.

"Stop tiptoeing to your parent's room door" she quickly added and Jaden turned back shockingly.

"We're not hiding anything from you. okay?"

"Yes mom. I'm upstairs"he said and quickly left.

Mandy paused again and bent her head on the marble slap.

"Lord" she cried

"It's not like I don't want the best for my boy. It's just that he's still young to be out of his parent's reach. I'm still molding him. I don't want him to be like those spoilt rich American kids. O God" she cried. And immediately wiped her eyes and continued working.

Meanwhile Jaden couldn't fathom how his mom knew he always tiptoes to their room door.

"She must know a lot of things I've done," he thought

"Anyways they're not bad stuffs"he assured himself and relaxed.

A little longer Mandy called him down to have lunch.

"Kelly asked after you"Mandy broke the eerie silence that was between them at the dining table.

Jaden looked around a little showing surprise.

"He came around?" he asked

"Yeah" Mandy answered shortly while she concentrated on her meal.

"Why would he come around?"Jaden questioned

"Do you have a problem with that?"Mandy questioned back

"Yeah?"Jaden replied

"Your uncle Jaden, "Mandy said sadly

"But Dad said he didn't want him here. He swindles people"

"Swindles?"she asked raising her eyebrows. Jaden said no more and continued eating.

"No honey I'm not saying you shouldn't comment on what I'm saying"she said and laughed a little

"Promise you won't hit me" Jaden pushed his head forward

"Have I ever?" Mandy asked him thrusting her head forward and they both laughed.

"Dad warned me not to have anything to do with him so that--------------"

"You won't be negatively influenced"Mandy cut in

"Exactly Mom, exactly!" he exclaimed

"You see" he added

"You even know"

Mandy nodded and focused on him

"Have you been reading that book? "she asked him

"What book?" he asked her

"Oh"he suddenly remembered

"The bible "he quickly added

"Yeah" Mandy replied

"So have you been reading it off lately," she asked again

Jaden shook his head "Nah, I'm reading for my upcoming exams.

"What exams specifically?"Mandy questioned

"Mom I just told you earlier that I'm going to see Harvard rep meaning that's a real exam coming up for me"Jaden said and continued eating.

'So you really want to go to Harvard Jaden?"Mandy asked amidst the confusion

"Mom your taste and mine are not the same".

"So what on earth is wrong with Chicago Mandy queried him

"Whatever I think is wrong with it is my reason" Jaden fired back nonchalantly

"Hey, you don't talk to momma like that"Mandy rebuked.

"I will"

"What?"

"I said I will"Jaden dropped his cutlery

"I've been trying to get this nonsense out of my head but you just keep popping it back. It's my life and not yours and i just can't keep on sitting here while you try to influence dad. I'm fed up with your reasons"he concluded.

"So mom doesn't want the best for you?" she asked him trying to swallow up her shock.

"I don't care but your decision can't stop me" he stood up

"I think I've lost my appetite," he said and walked away

"Jaden, Jaden, Jaden" she called him but for no response.

"What just happened. I thought I was talking calmly. How did it her to this" she thought

"Oh God" she cried

"Help me Lord" she wiped her eyes

"Jaden" she called and stood up to talk to him.

Jaden and his dad went to the representative and Jaden passed the examination and was given admission into the university. Meanwhile, Mandy said hardly anything concerning Jaden's education. In fact, she became so quiet in the house due to Jaden's constant disrespect when she tried talking him out of going to Harvard to study.

The day for Jaden's departure suddenly came. He appeared very happy and satisfied with the whole plan. Mandy on the other hand was silent not even giving one piece of advice to Jaden. She only assisted him in packing his things.

"Hey men are you ready?"Kurt asked Jaden

"Yeah, Dad" Jaden replied excitedly.

Mandy just stood with a lost look on her eyes.

"Dearie we're about to go"Kurt woke her from her thoughts

"Hey mom I'm leaving but I'll come back when I'm through there," Jaden said to Mandy who just looked at him.

"Come on give me a hug"Jaden walked up to her and hugged her

"Be good" she wiped her eyes and touched his hair.

"Why are you crying like there's a vampire who's gonna eat me up?"Jaden questioned his mom who just walked inside.

He shook his head and called his dad

"Let's go, dad"

Mandy went upstairs, stood at the veranda and waved them goodbye.

She returned into the house and sat wearily on the tiled floor.

They arrived at the airport in good time. Jaden's bag was checked and they were giving their seat number

"Your seats are 22 and 23 respectively, "the air hostess said to them.

They found their seats and quickly sat on them.

"Fasten your seat belt," Kurt said to Jaden who nodded and smiled. Jaden was putting on a black pair of jeans trouser and a jogger sleeve on top of his inner shirt. He had a black baseball cap on his head.

Suddenly he noticed a woman holding her son in a tight hug while crying. Jaden heard her saying something like "Thank you, Lord".Noticing Jaden's rapt attention,Kurt touched him.

"Are you alright?" he asked Jaden

"See" Jaden pointed at the woman and Kurt laughed a little.

"Mom's second, "Jaden said as he turned away and Kurt laughed while focusing on his newspaper.

"That's a mother," a hostess told another.

"Like seriously I'm happy her son is back," the second guy said.

At this time Jaden and Kurt were listening with rapt attention.

"Child she donated a kidney for, "the first guy said and they both walked away still talking.

Jaden shook

"Dad, did you hear that? asked shockingly

"Yeah," he said and bent his head back to his papers

"Who would ever want to do that to her child? I don't believe someone can love her boy to that extent"Jaden shook his head.

"Your mom, she can, "Kurt said.

Jaden turned his eyes away

"I don't think so," he said and Kurt laughed.

"She has, "Kurt said. Jaden seemed not to understand Kurt's statement at that moment but suddenly turned to his dad.

"I-----I don't understand," he said in confusion.Kurt looked at Jaden.

"The kidney you're using is her's".Kurt said and Jaden became motionless.

"Mom gave me a kidney?" he asked admidst tears in his eyes

"Hey stop crying"Kurt reached to clean Jaden's eyes who drew back.

"Okay she did"Kurt finally said.

"Th---th--at--that can't be true"tears rolled down his smooth cheek. Kurt showed him a paper confirming the transplant

"You're very lit," he said as Jaden looked

through the paper in confusion

"I don't think that looks like what I falsified. And if you doubt, when you become born again, you can ask Jesus if I lied. "Jaden's eyes dripped water.

"You were sick and needed a quick kidney transplant so she helped you. She even quit her job to become a full-time housewife to take care of you" Kurt added and patted Jaden at the back who was in tears. Suddenly two men sat at the back of them.

"Harvard is totally hot now".One of them said.

"Situations of straight bullets hitting a lot of students has been reported."the other man said. Jaden looked at his dad.

"Students here should just study here for now. The soldiers there are really trying to do their work but it's just causing commotion"the second man said.

"What?"Jaden muttered and turned to look at Kurt who looked confused. Suddenly the news was sent to everyone's phone. Harvard isn't safe right now was what everyone said and the news just confirmed it.

"Better" Jaden said and began to lose his seat belt.

"What?"Kurt asked him in confusion.

"I was thinking of how to cancel this trip. This is not the right way to treat a mom who was there for me." he said and started walking out. Kurt hurriedly followed him

"Please we aren't flying anymore.Cancel the flight, give us out bags and our ticket money".Kurt said on getting to the counter.

"Bu---But why sir, "the receptionist asked

"Just give us our things it's none of your business"Jaden said to the receptionist angrily.

"Sorry sir we can only give you your luggage but we can't refund the ticket money It was written below on the slip we gave to you. And less I forget that's the bag"the receptionist said and pointed at it.

"You use it to take care of your life"Jaden said to her.

"C'mon dad lets go"They got into the car and Jaden remained very sober.

Mandy was alone listening to Josh Groban's "you raise me up" when suddenly she heard the sound of a car driving into the compound. She stood up and went out to look at who it was. Surprisingly Jaden came down from the car all in tears while Kurt switched off the ignition.

"Mom"he called and ran to her to embrace her whose arm was wide open.

"Mom I'm sorry. I never knew you sacrificed so much for me. I'm sorry I treated you the way I did" Jaden said while still in her arms. Kurt came down from the car and felt touched by Jaden's statements.

"Honey it's alright. Just tell me what happened "she said as she wiped her eyes and took him Inside while Kurt followed them.

Jaden narrated everything that happened.

"It's okay baby,it's alright"she said and embraced him and cleaned his eyes.

"Mandy I'm also sorry for putting you through this stress"Kurt said and she nodded.

"Is Chicago's form still ongoing?"Kurt asked no one in particular.

"No dad"Jaden wiped his eyes and rested his head on his mother's shoulder.

"Oh my God"Kurt muttered. Mandy suddenly stood up and went into her room and brought out a form which she handed to Jaden.

"Here," she said as he collected it

"I was able to purchase it before the expiry date".Jaden looked at it and saw it was Chicago university admission form.

"Dad it's the form," he said excitedly and gave it to Kurt who was totally surprised

"Mom" Jaden jumped on her and she laughed and held him.

"Mom I love you I love you you're the best"he said.

Kurt began to clear his throat.

"So Jaden you just threw me away like this even after donating my lungs and liver for you".he teased and they all laughed.

"Come here you two"he called out to them and they all embraced themselves.

"You know what, you two will pray for me I now want Jesus in my life so that i can be like mom," Jaden said and they did pray for him.

"C'mon let the celebration begin"Kurt said.

"I'll prepare another Creamy Chicken-vol-au-vent"Mandy said and they were all excited. Jaden switched on the sound system and began to play Carrie Underwood's love wins.

They had a good time that day.

After a few years Jaden graduated from the University of Chicago as a well experienced Medical Doctor. They all lived happily.

Mom really loves her boy.
