Meena Wants A Book

Meena loves to read books. She would read them everywhere and every day. One day, one of her friends, Kaliya, told her, "Meena, why do you read books every day? Come play with us." Meena replied, "No, Kaliya, I love to read books because whenever I read one, I imagine myself being that particular character in a particular scene."

One day, Meena screamed, "Ahhhhhh!" Her mother asked, "What is it, Meena? Why did you scream?" Meena wept and replied, "Mummy, I have no books to read. I am going to get bored now!" Her mother replied, "No need to cry, dear. Go to the library and get any book you want. Here, take the library card." "Thanks, Mummy," said Meena and left for the library.

Meena reached the library and went to the children's section. She saw that many of the books on the lower shelf had already been read by her. Meena did not want to read the same stories again and again. But she saw a huge stack of new books on the topmost shelf. She started climbing up from one shelf to another. However, the shelf started shaking and Meena fell.

The librarian, Mrs. Susheela, saw everything and went to help her. She asked Meena, "You naughty girl, what do you think you were doing?" Meena replied, "Mrs. Susheela, I wanted to read a new book, but all of them were kept on the topmost shelf, and I am too short to reach it." "My dear girl, you could have asked me. I could have helped you. I was just like you at your age and asked the librarian to help me. Come, let me help you," said the librarian. Meena replied, "Really?" "Yes, my dear girl," said the librarian.

She then lifted Meena up and helped her choose whatever book she wanted. Meena took all the books she needed and left, waving the librarian a hearty goodbye.
