Once upon a time, there was a very small panda. He lived in a forest on a mighty old tree with his family. One day he realized that a rickety old truck passed just beneath his tree very often. “Gudh” “gudh” “dhum” “dhum” it went, causing a mini earth-quake on his home. He went to his Mummy and asked, “Mumma where does this go?”. His Mummy told him, “Son, this truck goes to a village.”. Then he asked, “ What is a village?”. His Mummy said, “ A village is a place which is very different from a forest. We will go when you are older. Now go and play.”

The small panda was not satisfied. He asked his friend, the Rabbit, “What is a village?”. The rabbit rolled his eyes and said in a hushed voice, “ A village is a magical place. It has a place called the market, where you get wonderful things. The homes have beds, soft and cozy places to sleep. It’s the best place you can be.” Then he cautioned, “ Don’t tell anybody what I told you.”. And he ran away.

Poor Panda, he was mystified. Soon he wanted to see the village, more than anything else. So one fine morning he jumped on to the truck and went. Just after some time, the truck stopped. When he peeked outside, he was amazed. “Such a nice place.” he thought and jumped off the truck.

Soon he found himself next to a place with a basket full of bananas. “Wow, he thought. In the forest, getting bananas is so much trouble with climbing the tree and all. This village is magical. Bananas are available so easily in a basket.” He grabbed many bananas, peeled them and gobbled them. He was about to go for a second round when he heard a loud coughing sound. “Ahem! That would be 10 Rupees Panda.” A monkey was staring at him.

Poor Panda he had lived all his life in the forest, he did not know what money meant. He gave a blank expression and became scared. The monkey was now stern and said, “ Give me my money!”. He replied very timidly, “ I don’t have any money.” The monkey was now very angry. He took the Panda to his home and said to his wife, “Dear, make this boy work! He took bananas without any money.”

Poor Panda! He had to work all day. He dusted the house, broomed it, cleaned all utensils, and peeled vegetables. He was very tired. In the night when he was about to sleep, he heard something very familiar. “Gudh” “gudh” “dhum” “dhum”. Out he went to the window. The same truck was going back to the forest. Gleefully he hopped back on it.

Soon his home came. The Panda came out of the truck and rushed inside his home. His family was very anxious for him. “Where had you been?” Everyone cried at once. He said, “ I lost my way home. I am so sorry!”, and began to cry. His mother comforted him and brought him, bananas on a plate. He gobbled all of them in an instant and said, “ Mumma you are the best.” Soon he was sleeping comfortably in his mother’s arms.
