How Kolkata got its name

Once upon a time, there lived a farmer who grew crops. One day he saw that the crops were ripe and he soon went to cut them.

Then the next day a British ruler came to know the name of the place. So he saw the farmer and asked him " what is the name of the place". But the farmer didn't know English so he was thinking he is asking "when you cut the crops". So he said " kal kata" and the British ruler think that the name of the place is Calcutta now Kolkata. So from then the people believed that this place is called Kolkata.
