This story is of Ruhan.

Since childhood, Ruhan had a problem with keeping friends. Ruhan was unruly, did selfish things, hurt people, and made sadistic, derogatory remarks. He was notoriously known for his temper, egotistical motives and narcissism. To his classmates, his presence soon became suffocating and he was let loose.

Ruhan was alone, with no friends. As he realized he was boycotted, he tried to make amends, but it was too late. His friends had already given up hope on him. Ruhan broke, and promised himself that he will never trust in a friend again.

For years, he remained courteous to his classmates, never restoring faith in any. It was all going great for Ruhan, he used to sit with his so-called friends, share food with them, have a good laugh, discuss sports and do all the activities that regular good people do. But there was a catch, his friendships lacked love, care and emotion. He had made it a point to never get into a friendship where if the other person leaves, it could hurt.

So, this way, Ruhan lived his friendships, until, he met her!

Ruhan was going through a rough phase. Ruhan did not like her. He had self-doubt, and he realized that if he doesn't find a connection soon, either he will end up alone, or in a forced, untrustworthy relationship.

He started socializing, talking to all sorts of people and then he clicked with her.

Her name? Anahita.

Anahita and Ruhan operated on the same frequency.

They became friends and soon became the best of friends.

Ruhan was closed to feeling emotions like trust, faith, and friendship, but with Anahita he felt them all. Anahita was like that warm hug of friendship that we all crave. She didn't judge him for who he was, neither for his positives, nor for his negatives. Ruhan trusted her with his feelings and Anahita reciprocated by trusting him with her's.

They shared a great deal of time talking over an array of subjects.

It was all going great, but soon, like all things good, their friendship ran over a speed-bump. For three days Ruhan was a mess. He was on the verge of crying, thinking that if Anahita found out what he had done, she will certainly get rid of him. Ruhan had accidentally bitched about Anahita. He didn't want to, yet he did -- old habits die hard, as they say!

He called Anahita to tell her what he had done, but lied.

She soon found out.

They haven't talked since.

And Ruhan? he's reverted.

He's now a courteous colleague.

Takeaway: A saying that goes something like this, "Asli dost ki pehchaan to tehkhane mein hoti hai, mainkhane mein to sab hi yaar hote hain."
