First Interview

When the interview letter arrived in the mail, I was all excited and at the same time nervous. I had no exposure whatsoever of what was expected. To calm my fears Dad said he would accompany me and wait in the reception, more for moral support than anything else. That somewhat lifted my spirits.

Four decades ago not many women worked in international organizations. It was viewed as not safe for single women working with men. Well, that was a total misconception. From day one I was treated with respect by colleagues and bosses. I was the youngest and felt so comfortable in that protective environment. The reason which made me stay on with them for nearly two decades,.passing up opportunities for better prospects.

And honestly speaking, I would have continued working till retirement in my first and last company, but circumstances demanded I resign following my husband's transfer to a different city. The fact that I continue to enjoy the camaraderie with my ex-colleagues, is proof enough of my loyalty to the first job I held.
