He was shy. No one in school guessed why? The kids tried their best to draw him into games and conversations. He remained reluctant.
One day a few of the kids decided to visit him at his house. They knocked on the door several times. There was no response. One suggested "why don' we try the back door?". "Good idea" the rest agreed.
Walking around the fence they reached the backyard and knocked on the back door. The door opened with one twist of the knob. "Rick are you there? Come join us for a bicycle ride."
The kids found him in the attic with a book on his knee reading intently. Surprised he smiled and told them his story.
"I have no family. I have never known one. This is my foster home and my foster parents are mostly out on work. When they come home, was eat a quick dinner and the. I'm.off to bed" he confessed with tears in his eyes."
The boys understood why he was shy and preferred to be on his own. "Well, that problem is solved. Right now you are one of us. You will never miss having no brothers. We pledge to be your family. Get up, and stop thinking of the past."
Rick embraced his new family and blossomed into a gregarious person.
Having a family meant the world to this little orphaned boy.
