Eye-opener

   During Covid-19 pandemic, stores are shutdown, public gathering are banned, travel is restricted, physical/social distancing imposed, so this is some form of lockdown, just to slow down the spread of Covid-19. As every coin has two sides in the same way that, all of these having positive impact on envirnment and negative impact on global economy.

   The pandamic seems to be having positive side-effects on environment like the earth is healing with reduced traffic, the ozon layer which helps in absorbing the harmful ultra-violet rays of sun is now healing, the pollution level drops down so the air becomes more cleaner, water becomes more clearer and humanity is coming together as people sing in unison. At the same time the pandemic seems to be having negative side-effects as it paralyzes the global economy by direct impact on airlines, import-export companies, travel-tourism, retailers, hotels-restaurants and many other non-essentials services.

   Why are economy and environment are always seen inversely proportional to one another? That when economy stumbles the environment begins to become better. Why does this happen?

   This is happening because our economy is extremely inter-linked with fossile fuels, coal, oil, petroleum and all other non-essential forms of energy. These are the primary sources of energy today which runs the transportation sector, which runs the manufacturing industry, which are responcible for the electricity generation world-wide. This is the reason why when transport industry screeches to a halt then carbon emmission go down. When electricity demands fall world-wide, then carbon emmision go down, the air becomes cleaner, the water becomes clearer, the pollution level falls. This is good news for environment.

   But, all these positive effects are temporary effects for a short term. The entire situation is going to revert to the same as soon as the lockdowns are withdrawn. The clean air and the clear water that you witness is only for a short while because as soon as the lockdowns are withdrawn, the pollution and squalid conditions are going to increase again.

   So this is not the lockdown, but an eye-opener, a chance given by the earth to re-think that : The money and development is not everything but the Nature...!

   Our basic needs are very less but we are struggling so much throughout our life just to accomplish that small needs. So we need to balance the economy and environment. The change starts with you but it doesn't starts untill you do and its you who figures out -
