Eternals

THE WIND BLEW hard. The leaves started to rustle. Slowly, they began to rise, while moving in the air. They darted forward and started revolving around him. His name was Safar. Eighteen years old. Some branches broke off from the trees and began to fall. The wind caught them and pushed them towards the revolving leaves.......

Twenty-four hours earlier.....

Safar, who belonged to a family with special capabilities, called Eternals, walked out of his room, once again failing to show that he possessed any of the five Eternals-Fire, Water, Air, Earth and Nature- in him to his father. Very rarely do people possess the Nature Eternal. People possessing an Eternal are called Writher.

He had regular classes at his home. All children belonging to Eternal families were home-schooled. It was so that, the outside world didn’t know about it. This power can be given to another by will.

This power can be very dangerous, if in the wrong hands. As the children are not mature enough, they may give their power to some stranger. Hence they’re home-schooled.

Safar was the first in a million years who hadn’t shown any sign of possessing an Eternal, even after the age of seventeen. All his friends had it in them. He walked into his grandfather’s room. He was the only person who believed that Safar possessed an Eternal in him. Everyone else had given up all hope weeks ago.

“Still no sign?” asked grandfather as he walked in sadly. Safar shook his head.

“Why is it that I don’t show any sign? Am I not a Writher?”

“Of course you are. Just give it some time. It will spear soon. Maybe your Eternal will be really strong. Who knows? ”

“I don’t think so. I’m just sick of this.”

“Calm down, my child. It will appear soon. It will. I’m sure if it. Just listen to the sound of silence, the sound of silence.”

Safar opens his mouth to say something when a knock on the outside door stops him. He and grandfather exit the room and walk to the door of the form, where father stands.

Father opens the door. Three people stand outside. They each have a tattoo of ‘ESi’ on their arm. The Eternalists, Safar thought. They were a group who knew about the Eternals, but didn’t belong to an Eternal family, and seemed the power. But these were not belonging to any major Eternalists’s group. Sara could say from the ‘i’ in the tattoo. That was only used for minor groups.

“Come with us.” Said the Eternalist in the front. Father obeyed and mother, his sister (who was fifteen and didn’t possess any Eternal), grandfather and him followed.

They took them to a forest and tied them to a tree using a nylon rope. Father tried using his Eternal to burn it, but couldn’t. Mother tried to break the rope with her power of water, but it had no effect on the rope. Grandfather tried to tear the rope using wind but failed.

All he could do was loosen a part of the rope, and that created a space for Safar to escape. No sooner had he escaped, that the three Eternalists, along with four others, come there.

“HEY YOU, STOP THERE! ” Said one of them.

Safar turned around. Seeing them, fear spread across his face. He looked at his family. The fear turned into determination. They were doing wrong. Into anger. They had hurt his family. Then, into revenge. One of them jumped towards him. He sidestepped. The guy landed, took out a piece of cloth and tied it around his eyes in such a way that it was impossible to be untied.

The sound of silence. The sound of silence. The sound of silence. The words repeated in his mind. He screamed loudly and then closed his eyes. The sound of silence. He controlled all his focus to his ears. And he heard sounds. Brides chirping. Wind blowing. Leaves rustling. Branches falling. A river, far away, flowing.

All the various sounds mixed together to form one thing, silence. A special kind of silence. All of them, now, seemed to vanish. And then he heard it. An anonymous sound. The sound of crumbling leaves under the stress of something. A foot. To his left.

He turned left and swung his arm back and then from down swing it forward and stopped. The wind blew strongly. It sends the person flying and hit a tree and fell to the ground. Two other sounds, from left and right. He put his arms to his sides and open them.

Flames appeared there. He lifted his hands. The flames flew towards the two and burned them down. Another sound behind him. From above, he swings his arms backwards. Water rushed from the trees ahead and hit the two people being him.

The water rushed towards him. It washed over his face, it’s momentum tearing the cloth to pieces. Safar open his eyes. Two people left. Both were in front of him.

The wind blew hard. The leaves rustled. Slowly, they began to rise, while moving in the air. They darted forward and started revolving around him. Some branches stroke off from the trees and began to fall. The wind caught them and pushed them towards the revolving leaves.

The revolving speed began to increase rapidly. Now they sound so fast that the leaves and branches couldn’t be spotted. They broke off course and darted towards the two Eternalists. The leaves cut their body while the branches pierced into it. The two fell to the ground, dead.

He rushed to his family. He put his right hands’ fingertips together, then open his plan wide. Parts of the ground started to rise and fall randomly, hitting the rope. The rope, finally fell off. His family hugged him.

Grandfather says, “I told you it will come soon. And you have the rarest Eternal. Nature. So, the wait was not for nothing, after all.”

Safar nods. Safar smiles.

Safar says, “It was easy. I just did what you told me. Listen. The sound of silence!”
