Alertness Of A Little Boy

It was twelve noon on a  summer day. A twelve-year-old boy Prajwal was standing in front of the multi-storied building under construction near the Gandhi Circle in Pavanpur town. He saw a horrible scene of a labourer working at the risk of his life on the fourth floor and there was every possibility of his falling to the ground. The little boy's alertness was really an appreciable act.  He saw the truck full of empty cement bags parked very near. Prajwal immediately went there and showed the truck driver the horrible position of the labourer and requested him with folded hands to park the vehicle just below the spot, where the labourer may fall. The truck driver realised the danger and with the presence of his mind moved the vehicle exactly to the spot. A few seconds of delay would have caused a terrible situation. As expected, the labourer fell down on the loaded empty cement bags. His life was saved. Due to the impact of pressure and fear, he sustained injuries and became unconscious. His wife Subbamma, a labourer in the same building was working nearby. She heard the alarm bell strike at the same time and arrived at the spot. Her cry reached the sky.  Prajwal was comforting her.

The crowd gathered without making way for concerned people. They were in a hurry to take a photo from their mobile. Police arrived to control the mob.

The unlucky labourer Ramanna is none other than the father of Prajwal. Meanwhile, the building contractor Murugan arrived.

 Prajwal said,

"Sir, take my father to the hospital quickly.  Anything may happen if it is delayed.

Murugan came to know the alertness of the little boy and appreciated him.

"Don't worry my boy," he said.

He quickly arranged the medical treatment in the nearby Sparsha speciality hospital. Subbamma and Prajwal were running to reach the hospital.  The hospital authorities insisted on the police report. It was ready.  The police officer came and enquired about Murugan.

"Why don't you have a safety system for the labourers, who work in such a risky place. If you don't arrange the safety measures immediately, the action would be initiated against you as per the law."

Murugan promised them to provide the same as early as possible. After one hour's treatment, Ramanna gained consciousness. He saw his son Prajwal first and remembered talks with his son before climbing up for work.

"Dad, why do you work in such a risky place? If something happens to you, mom and I would be in deep trouble," said Prajwal.

"Don't worry my son. I am an experienced worker. I pray to God before commencing my work. Why are you here? It's already late for your school. Go and attend the class."

Subbamma convinced Prajwal not to worry and told her husband to climb up for work. She went to attend work elsewhere in the same building, hoping that her son would go to school.

Prajwal stayed there without going to school. His timely action saved the life of his father.

At the same time, Murugan gives a cash award of Rs.10,000/- to Prajwal and promised free education in his Model Higher Secondary School. The police case against Murugan was withdrawn.

The sixth-standard maestro, Prajwal's timely action was narrated by the teacher in the class.  All the students stood up and shouted in one voice,  'You are an ideal for us. May your life-saving example be a role model for us."

The Government Middle School was proud of having an extraordinary student like Prajwal.
