The Varendah
The Varendah
The varendah I remembered as a child,
Staring out holding its grills,
It was my kingdom it was my world,
Where fantasy fed all my thrills.
I saw the sunset every day,
The clouds painted in an orange hue,
I watched the shrine of a distant temple,
Rising high in the sky so blue.
I played there with my pots and pans,
I placed my dolls in a corner seat,
I watched the tree and the crow's nest,
I watched the cars in the street.
I saw the storm when thunder rolled,
I peered at the lightning spark,
I came to see the stars at night,
Alone I sat in the dark.
The fairies, the princess, the demons and ghosts,
All were there in the verandah of mine,
In the time of sand, all had vanished,
Only the memories still shine.
