The Mirror & Me

The Mirror & Me

Look. Look closely. What do you see?

Go, look. Get up.

Whether you are curled up on your bed holding onto life with a thread,

If you have crawled in a ball with your head against the wall,

Or lying on the floor unable to cry anymore.

Get up.

Walk up to a mirror and stare into it deep.

Look closely. What do you see?

Do you see a person bruised and battered

With shards of dreams in her eyes, shattered.

Do you see someone broken beyond repair

With those fragile lungs grasping for air-

Just an ounce of air. Struggling to breathe.

Look closely. What do you see?

Do you see someone shadowed in a dark past

Her lips long forgotten when they smiled last.

Or how she wrenches stop the quiver in her chin

Quiet outside but the chaos within

Destroying her. Crushing hope beneath.

Look closely. What do you see?

Do you see her with drooping shoulders

A voice but once warm, now much colder.

Or someone with a mind so tired and bare

Her sleep replaced by a nightmares-

One dream at a time. One last dream.

Look closely. What do you see?

Do you know who is she?

“Familiar.Someone a lot like me.”

Look closely.

In that mirror reflection,

do you see the perfection

That you once were?

Do you see, you beauty,

You still can be,

So Happy, if you choose to be.

If you choose to see your reality.

Heck, you’re Miss Congeniality!

In all your glory and vanity!

Through all your dramatic insanity-

Don’t you see?

The most important piece the mirror chooses to hide

Is the courage to heal that you have inside.

So, get up.

Now, look closely.

What do you see?
