Tethered

Tethered

My tether

To this mortal world

Is a flimsy thread

Tied around my pinky.

I have in front of me

Two options

A stable bridge

Or a knee-deep lake

What would I choose?

Stability is what

Everyone wants

But what's life

Without any risks.

Alas I am tethered

To this very ground

Not being able to choose.

And so I am stuck

In a middle ground.

Between stability and chaos.

Between safety and adventure.

Between everything I cared for

And everything I have feared.

So middle ground it is.

My soul is free to float

But this vessel

Is always tethered

To indecisiveness

To what makes it feel safe.
